That's hardly fair to the French resistance who fought and died to try to liberate their country, or to the French soldiers who died before the surrender, or in the struggle to get free when the allies landed.

Easy for you to judge, sitting here safe and sound in 2010.

They were a member of the allies; they deserve a place on that poster, just as much as the others.

Do I even dare ask you about Poland?

(frozen comment) Re: 151

[identity profile] nadiayar.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this is hardly fair, 'cause historical reality is not fair, and the 1st half of the XX century was the very opposite of fairness. There were some resistance movements in most German occupied countries, but all the death blows to the Axis were dealt by the big three...

...and Canada. "Who?.." Now, that't who really got forgotten unfairly: Canada, APH's Matthew Williams. This peaceful nation proved to be a formidabble warrior, almost on par with his brother. The North American brothers would have to be played by the same actor, and the result'd come out like nuclear Jekyll & Hyde:)

(Anonymous) 2010-03-18 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
You can't just ignore other nations contributions. It all helped, and without any of them, the task would have been harder.

And you didn't answer about Poland. Their pilots were very helpful in the battle of Britain, and they were the first to fight the nazis. Just because they lost, doesn't make their struggle any less noble, especially since they were attacked on two fronts...

But you are right about Canada, at least.

(frozen comment) Re: 151

[identity profile] nadiayar.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know much about the Polish contribution to war, so I cannot say anything about it. I generally prefer to remain silent on topics I'm unfamiliar with. However, there would surely be a place for Poland in such a movie. How can we do without dear old Feliks, who btw suffered so greatly under the Nazi occupation? No way! The movie definitely would need a Poland.

(frozen comment) Re: 151

(Anonymous) 2010-03-18 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Don't forget the Soviet occupation he also suffered under. For him, the war lasted much longer than any of the other allies. He only got his freedom back in 1989.

(frozen comment) Re: 151

[identity profile] nadiayar.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
I'd not call it suffering, because then no words for the Nazi occupation would be left. It was more of a prolonged house arrest. An unfair one, maybe. But movie-wise, I would not be averse to more drastic interpretations.

(frozen comment) Re: 151

(Anonymous) 2010-03-18 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
You might not call it suffering, but I think the polish do. And since they are the ones who lived through it, I think I'll listen to them and not to you.

(frozen comment) Re: 151

[identity profile] nadiayar.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
It's your right to believe any lies you find appealing. You may also want to believe the Japanese revisionists that the Rape of Nanking never happened - after all, *they* are charged with committing it, so they must know better. ;D

>Over 6 million Polish citizens—nearly 21.4% of Poland's population—died between 1939 and 1945. Over 90% of the death toll came through non-military losses, as most of the civilians were targeted by various deliberate actions by Germans and Soviets.

I'd like to believe most Russians don't think with their Motherland goggles on, but this is just ridiculous.

The anon above, to whom I replied, was actually talking about the time *from the end of the war "for others" up to 1989*. That is, the time Poland was in the Warsaw pact. That's a bit later than 1939-1945, regarding which I completely agree with you.

(frozen comment) Re: 151

[identity profile] spoggly.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
polish resistance and warsaw uprising much

like, srsly, read more

(frozen comment) Re: 151

[identity profile] nadiayar.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Those were hardly death blows for the Third Reich, were they. Oh, the Polish and their ego! :))) The movie ought to have a scene where Feliks pretends to have chased the Germans from his house single-handed. He's so weak he's hardly able to sit straight at that moment. Alfred then feeds him a donut, or something. A cutesy fluffy scene it'd be.:)

(frozen comment) Re: 151

[identity profile] spoggly.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
lol shut up

did poland single-handedly defeat the axis? no. that's not what you said, is it.

I don't know much about the Polish contribution to war

the fact that you are a hetalia fan AND this ignorant like repulses me

(frozen comment) butthurt detected:)

[identity profile] nadiayar.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
You see, it is not called "WORLD WAR II" for no reason. It was not a war for Warsaw, or even for all of Poland, you know. Or not?..

(frozen comment) plz fuckers like u r my bread and butter

[identity profile] spoggly.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
awwww, thnx bb!

It just gets me annoyed when people are this ignorant about such a huge part of history while being into a series BASED on it. I mean, it's bad enough most of the time, but lol jeeze.

(frozen comment)

[identity profile] nadiayar.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. I got it. You mean, being a theater of war *was* Poland's great contribution to WWII? o_O OK, I can accept that, and the part with your mom too. Just don't tell that to Poles, that about the nature of their contribution. They might rather forcibly disagree with you.

(frozen comment)

how does a troll know what a wikipedia is

[identity profile] passthepeaches.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
This is just going over your head isn't it? Read and ABSORB the info given to you.

Shit you probably think the Flinstones is based on fact.

(frozen comment) Re: butthurt detected:)

[identity profile] milo1047.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
So why not educate yourself about all of it, from the Fall of Poland to the Fall of France, the Battle of Britain, Barbarossa, Pearl Harbor, China, the Pacific, North Africa, Italy, Normandy, the Eastern Front, China-Burma-India, New Guinea...

You are why people think Hetalia fans are ignorant.

(frozen comment) Re: butthurt detected:)

[identity profile] passthepeaches.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
If only. This person probably read a wikipedia entry and thought, "Oh look at me, I'm educating myself on TRUFACTS~"
