but but... I'd have thought that it'd be a small fandom but with cool people in it... I've never looked.

The "small" part, yes. The "cool" part...I really wish. :( There are a few cool people, but most of them are into slash so they've sort of been shunned by the larger fandom, who seems to be scared of the concept (among many other things).
