I don't know how anyone can hate Leonard. I liked him from the beginning, but I loved him from the moment he talked about building a hugging machine. He's adorable :[

Also, it seems odd to me that fandoms apparently get so competitive about characters even in shows like this where all the main characters are friends with each other.

I hate bashing in fics. It's unnecessary.

That said, I hate Leonard. As a recent example, it was embarrassing and cringe worthy when he was up at the podium complaining about his life. Come on, pal, you're up there to introduce someone else, not talk about your troubles.

I get that it's supposed to be funny, but that hit my embarrassment squick hugely.

At times I find him kind of annoying but WTH is wrong with those people who hate him? He's adorable and as damaged as he is.. he's always trying to help his friends.
Oh and if someone hates him because he's with Penny, oh that's even more stupid ¬¬

Especially after yesterday's episode too, what a muffin. Seriously, he needs some lovin'. <3

Why does everyone hate him?! It makes me sad. Sure, he can be annoying, but they're all annoying! That's the point! He's so endearing. And he looks somewhat like one of my best friends, too.

Iiii cannot stand Leonard. He just seems like a whiny brat. But I also cannot stand the entire concept of TBBT. I don't find it funny. I find it cruel and mocking and I'm baffled how most of my nerd friends find them making fun of them to be funny. I find it insulting.

But, I also don't watch the show. However, I have watched a handful of episodes, and I quite enjoy Sheldon, Raj and Howard. Leonard has moments, but I find him generally annoying. I think it's the fact that how annoying he is is rarely remarked on in the show that really bothers me. Like, if people were constantly rolling their eyes at him and snubbing him like would happen in the real world, I wouldn't mind. But instead it's made out that he's the cool, hip one. Mostly he's a douche that deserves to be punched in the face.

I'd be far more into the show if Howard and Raj were the main characters and Leonard just popped up for a handful of minutes every day.

I suspect the bashing comes about so strong because of the STRONG (unwarranted, IMO) love for him that other fans get. Like I said, I'm not in TBBT fandom, but I have been in fandoms where this has happened. The louder the (unjustly, imo) fans love a character that I don't think deserves that degree of love, the louder I will be about hating him, or pointing out all his many, many flaws that the blind fangirls seem to have missed.

However, I generally don't character bash in fic. I find that just to be petty and immature, and if I'm into another character more, I'd rather write about that character being awesome than about the character I don't like being a dumbass.

Yeah, I don't get it. I think Leonard is a great 'straight man' to the group and the gang would not be as great without him. I keep hearing people say he's a dick, but I honestly can't see it; every character in the show has dick-ish moments, yet they still put up with it because they like each other anyway. I never liked character bashing in fics, either.

Leonard can be whiny, but Raj can be boring, Howard can be irritating, Sheldon can be boringly pretentious/ignorant of social conventions and they're all just a little too stereotypical to my taste.

They all have their moments, though I do prefer Raj and Leonard. I can understand why people might not like Leonard, but I do not understand the vitriolic hate I've seen from a lot of people in fandom.

I agree. Though actually, I think all the characters are pretty whiny. Especially Sheldon. I don't know why people will hold Leonard's whining against him and forgive all the whining from the other characters. THEY ARE ALL WHINERS.

I find Leonard far more tolerable than Sheldon. If I knew them IRL I wouldn't be able to STAND Sheldon.

awww, I love Leonard. <3 (I think a lot of the hatin' comes from Sheldon/Penny shippers, not even hardcore hate but just KILL THE SPARE kinda shit.)
