My parents haven't spoken to me in years since I went to university and moved into the city for a great job in graphic design. They told me I was being pretentious, that I'm ungrateful, that I should've just gotten an engineering apprenticeship with my dad's factory close to home, that I'm no longer their son, and why couldn't I just be a "good child" like my sister, who as far as I know still lives at home and who took a part time job in a shop after dropping out of highschool.
So yeah, I'm projecting more than a little, I'll give you that. And I'm biased as all fuck. It's why I've made this comment anon. It's also the reason I never joined the Supernatural fandom. I feel bad enough knowing my parents hate me, I don't need to read about how dozens of strangers would think of me as a worthless dick for "running out on my family" or something like that.
I think John Winchester is a douchebag and a rotten father. Sam might have said a few things he didn't mean, but John is the adult here and should've let him go. Besides, he's the one who raised both his kids to hunt monsters, knowing full well they could die doing it. And no, Sam shouldn't have apologized. He had nothing to apologize for.
