Honestly, when I find out someone I know does drugs, my respect for them drops substantially (This includes my mother and brother). If they keep it to themselves, and don't try to involve me in, or talk to me about it, I can pretty much forget about it.

However, when people are all like, "LOL, I'm gonna go home and get stoned! OMG! I need money to buy weed! I got my cat stoned, HAHAHA! I went through the McDonald's drive-thru totally fucked up!" So on and so forth, then I'm lucky if I can manage to keep the disgust off my face.

I personally think people who indulge in drugs are (largely) pathetic and a plague on society. I will not associate with the latter example above unless forced to, in real life or in fandom.

That being said, I also won't bother harassing someone about their stupid decisions, particularly in fandom. If I don't approve of an individual's personal choices, or find their drug-related idiocy annoying, I'll simply defriend them, simple at that. If they want to be some pathetic, smoke-shriveled, brain-dead waste of flesh, that's their prerogative. I wouldn't waste my breath trying to 'help' someone so blatantly stupid, anyway.

Sure, I can agree with that. I'm hugely judgmental when it comes to drugs. I've been around the block a few times and I've yet to meet anyone who does drugs that isn't riding the loser train on some level. I don't express those opinions to people that do; I just avoid them. People who choose to dose themselves with harmful and/or mind-altering substances aren't people I choose to associate with.

If I ever met someone who, in spite of such a habit, still managed to be a halfway decent human being, I'd call that the exception that proves the rule, but I would make an effort not to hold their drug use against them. As long as they didn't shove it in my face, I could probably deal with it. But I'd still respect them a lot less than I would otherwise. That's just how I operate. *shrug*

Just so you know, some of the people you respect for "not being on the loser train" are doing drugs, they just don't tell you about it.

Do you drink alcohol? Caffeine? Are you overweight? Those are basically just as harmful to the body as certain "illegal" drugs are. You would have to be totally pristine in the way you live in order to not be hypocritical about your judgements.
