I totally ship Spock/Uhura but part of me actually wants the sequel to throw Spock together with a hot blond girl like Chapel just to see those people's heads explode.

It seems a lot of 'interracial' ships have similar issues of overplaying the race card for the sake of making a statement about how they're so 'under-represented'.

Nah, we'll just get tl;dr meta about how OMGRACISTRACISTRACIST the movie was for breaking up S/U. Making it Chapel/Uhura on the other hand...

Regardless of what happens in the next movie, I think there's going to be drama from that comm about what they did 'wrong' or 'right'

I feel bad for the Spock/Chapel shippers, (yeah, they exist) because they've been yelled at lot and there's not many of them to start with

Hell if they cast a decent actress to play Chapel, I'd totally jump the S/U ship just to get avoid all that comm's issues.

I really hate how the comm makes Uhura out to be the most awesome and perfect character ever. Uhh no, she's just a normal woman like everyone else.

Holyshit this. She's not a mary-sue at all, but it seems like everyone's terrified of writing her not SOAMAZINGLOOKATHOWAMAZINGOHMYGOD for fear the inquisition that hangs out there will rain down on them, as with others before.
