(Anonymous) 2010-03-24 07:35 am (UTC)(link)I wouldn't say that he was a shitty father, because that would be expecting too much from him. No parent is going to be amazing, everyone will have their flaws. Especially him. He was left with two young sons, and with the knowledge that something not human killed his wife. He was introduced into a world that he did not know, and he had to take his children with him.
I guess he did kick Sam out of the house, but come on, do our parents truly know how to express themselves around us? I think John wanted to hold on to Sam, but knew that college was the only way he could almost escape that world. He gave his son a chance to experience what is "normal". He just didn't express the right way. I like John for raising his sons the way he did. He protected them, in his own way.
