LOL at this. Some of the really well-received fics on the kink meme were PG-13 and lower. Quite a few of them, actually.

Agreed. There were also NC-17 fics that were long and plotty with way more than porn. Think it's possible that OP got caught in a time-space continuum.

Omg, this. At my last check, the two most heavily commented-on stories were very mild. Tbh, I've been a little disappointed at the lack of kinky pwp on the meme. I can find plotty G, PG, and PG-13 fic by just checking the newsletter every day. I went to the kink meme for, well, kink.

I can see why you'd think fandom is filled entirely with porn if where you are looking is a kink meme. My most popular fics had no porn in them.

Lol, I so agree. I love Merlin and its fandom, but it's definitely the most, uh, demure fandom I've ever been a part of.

I read a brilliant Merlin AU (not on the kink meme), and there was a fade-out scene where it was implied they had sex.

Half the comments of feedback were either disappointed in the lack of descriptive sex or asking for a porny sequel. The author later noted that she was uncomfortable writing sex scenes.

In personal journals, fans complained about the lack of sex in said fic - they said it would have been 'complete' with it. It's not like the characters didn't consummate their relationship, it just wasn't shown!

Actually, I think that Merlin is one of the least 'You've got to write porn to be popular.' fandoms I've ever been in. Which might or might not speak volumes about my past fandoms.

a) if you're looking at the kink meme and thinking that then, yeah, it's going to be mostly porn.

b) the merlin fandom has some VERY well received fic that has no porn in it at all but i do see where you're coming from; a lot of it DOES have porn. that said, merlin fandom is very PARTICULAR about their porn. you can't throw merlin and arthur together and expect it to work; most of those writers will work damn hard at forming a story before the porn that makes your heart HURT for the boys and that's why it's well received.

c) merlin fandom is very wide these days. maybe you're just not looking in the right place for the not!porn?

Maybe it's the fandoms I've in, but I've never had this problem. There's a BNF in my fandom who doesn't write fic at all.

...Isn't that the old kink meme in the background? Like, the one that died? *gets it up* Huh... apparently it is still going a little. O_o Which makes this secret even stranger, cause if you're watching that kink meme and not the other one, then you would get the impression that we're hardly posting any porn at all.

(And it's still not very kinky. I have filled many prompts there, and only one of them was porn.)
