The media was quite careful about the data given, to not let the morale down they didn't show images of the deceased, only buildings, they didn't show the rescue teams acting or such and they were quite quiet about the subject to not make mass fear stream freely, that's why they even fired the guy who alerted for a tsunami that didn't take place, mass fear would cause the same things that took place at Haiti: massive riots.

Chile handled things quietly for the best, just because the data given seems to be inferior to Haiti it doesn't mean the damages were lesser, the losses were lesser or the deaths were fewer, it's that things had to be handled discretely for the sake of everyone.

Even though some riots took place but the policemen worked efficiently to tone them down.
