So you mean, you imagine yourself with your favorite characters? Unless you're actually writing about yourself as the OMG PERFECT TRU LUV of your favorite character, and being all "NOOO MINE!!!" when he's shipped with anyone other than your self-insert, I don't see any problem with it.

And even if you are actually writing and posting self-inserts....well, that's not hurting anyone. *shrugs*

I hate this! I hate it so much! Some girl actually left a long, ranting comment on a fanart a drew about how drawing her favourite character together with anyone but her oc was WRONG and EVIL, and could I maybe stop drawing my favourite couple and draw a picture of her oc kissing the character instead, BECUS ITS MUCH BETER AND THEY R THE PERFECT COUPLE LOL.

She was so weird. She had a list of things that pissed her off on her profile page (I think it was on Fanart Central), and on the top of the list was people shipping her favourite character with anyone else than her oc. And she had followers who actually drew pictures of her oc with this character.

Sadly, she was my first real exposure to oc artists/authors. I'm still having trouble not reacting with "OH FUCK, RUN AWAY!" as soon as I encounter one now.

Seriously.

It's one thing if several fangirls are jokingly fighting over a character, and both know they're just being silly. It's another thing if they actually take it THAT seriously. -_-
And there are some artists/writers who don't even seem to realize that *GASP* NOT EVERYONE SHIPS YOUR OC! Hell, no matter how (in)famous your character is in the fandom, not everyone's gonna even acknowledge her as "fanon".
