You can think what you like about it - it doesn't change the fact that you, the viewer, is gleaning emotion from a fictional portrayal of something that real people face. You're appropriating those real feelings and circumstances for your own, selfish purposes, whether it's because it makes you feel anti-war or makes you feel excited and happy. In either case it's fucking disturbing. No one should get excited or feel thrilled about people dying. There's nothing glorious or poignant about pointless violence. And if you have to watch a fucking movie to start empathizing with fictional characters in order to care about war and the world, there is too much wrong with you to fix. You fucking self-absorbed, self-centred, entitled jerk. The world is not just you and your special pretty poignant ~anti-war~ feelings from watching a movie that exploits and appropriates real experiences for the sake of entertainment.

Someone's hateful.

Way to spread the word of kindness and peace.

Someone's privileged.

Way to make a pointless smart-aleck comment and ignore every point I made.

I don't particularly care for your point, possibly because of my suspicion you're a troll. Or you could be entirely sincere, in which case I would have to say, your hatred still doesn't help. Supposedly bitter people annoy me, like supposedly entitled jerks to you. Good day.

This, just this. Seriously, the OP can make his/her point without sounding like such a holier-than-thou asshole but at the same time, I'm smelling troll.

Another thing if OP is serious, my brother is a veteran marine, and yet he loves playing MW2 and watching war movies lol.

1. Do you enjoy any movie at all? Because most movies do, in fact, deal with a fictional portrayal that real people face. Why? So we do glean emotion from it. So we think about the event as it relates to real life. So we empathize. Oftentimes, this generates response towards the real event.
There are smaller problems, like, say, 'Juno'. Teenager gets pregnant. Inspires talk about real teenagers getting pregnant. War movies. I'll go with 'Platoon', because, as I said, it's the one war movie I really like. It inspires real talk about real war. Inspires talk about what went right and what went wrong in Vietnam. How Vietnam vets were treated/mistreated. Is it bad that a fictional medium brings about discussion about a real, horrible event? I personally don't think anything that can bring light--for whatever reason-- to a horrible event is bad. Feel free to disagree.

2. Being empathetic towards fictional characters does not stop me from being empathetic towards real people. And, as I said above, so what if it takes a fictional medium to make me (hypothetical me) aware of these real people, to whom I'm also empathetic? We're often unaware of things not in our immediate life; it's possible to miss the war on a personal level. I'm 17, I have no family or friends in the military, and news exposure has grown limited (at least the news I watch. Probably different elsewhere.); I could easily miss out on actual the horrors of war. Any way that makes you personally attached or inspires you to become personally involved is a good thing, I think.

3. I believe there is something very poignant about pointless violence. I feel terribly, horrifically sad about pointless violence. I feel regret that it happened. I feel piteous to those on whom it was inflicted. I feel all the emotions which poignancy covers. Why shouldn't I?

4. Enjoyment of a movie is not always confined to liking the movie to its entertainment merit alone. As I said above, it inspires real discussion.

And finally, there was no need to personally insult me. I have no problems with you. I have no problems with you disagreeing with me. You can think there's something horrible about people being emotional towards war movies. As I said, I don't like war movies, so this ideology of yours is no slight against me. And there are bad emotions that can be garnered from it, like enjoying people being killed, but I think the good emotions can be productive in gaining awareness for the real issue, so I will never have an issue with people enjoying war movies on an entirely visceral level.

I pretty much said the same thing about fifty times. Sorry; it kind of came back to one point for me, I guess. I'll try to give a better answer if you'd like.

Do you enjoy any movie at all? I don't, for the exact reasons you listed.

Inspires talk about what went right and what went wrong in Vietnam It inspires people to judge and criticize people for acting in certain ways in situations that the viewers themselves will likely never face, exploiting those experiences for self righteous moral masturbation. And lol, as if I need your permission to 'feel free to disagree'.

Oh, you're seventeen. Why am I not surprised? Teenagers are always self centred idiots. Like this, baby darling: Any way that makes you personally attached or inspires you to become personally involved is a good thing, I think.

Really? You have to be personally attached or involved with an issue before you give a damn? You can't care about people outside of your monkeysphere? You need someone to make you imagine that it could happen to you before you give a shit?

Well, of course. You're a little kid, you still think the whole world revolves around you and your feelings.

Why should you have to watch a movie to feel sad? For that matter, why the fuck should you have to feel anything at all in order to do something about it?

And who the fuck do you think you are, deciding what's a good or bad emotional reaction to a movie? I think your reactions are pretty self righteous and offensive, but you obviously think they're good and oh so special for a high school student, lol

Does it make you feel big and important to rip into and belittle someone for their age, anon?

Manners, learn you some.

You really are a fucking idiot. Seriously.

People like you are the reason why I registered as an Independent and distance myself from "progressives" even though I consistently vote Democrat. You are a fucking embarrassment

Don't you have, like, a hobby or something?
