right, lol

like actually what the fuck are you even trying to prove. you got trolled and agreed with an incredibly stupid comment, admit it already

This is an internet forum. Nothing to prove. No internet trophy at the end of the day for either of us. And now, now. There is no need to swear. And I stand by that comment. I do think that society's attitude on some mediums of entertainment can border on the exploitive and may have a tendency to trivialize actual suffering in the world all for our viewing pleasure. And yes, I do think all that rageyness~~ CANNOT be good for your heart. You have to take care of yourself, bb!

(Anonymous) 2010-05-03 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
That's only because you're an exploitive, privileged asshole, like every other fandom dweller that thinks it's cool to 'live vicariously' by reading stories and watching movies and playing games that trivialize human suffering into fun and games. If anyone is really interested in moving toward a peaceful world, they'd realize that you cannot attain peace unless you change people's nature. So long as humans find entertainment in horrible things like killing, destruction and rape, they will continue to commit horrible actions. It's part of our consciousness that those things are expected and acceptable, and those war movies and fighting games? They're a huge part of it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Fiction is among the most exploitive and disturbing inventions of humans, and that kind of "lol just fantasy" attitude about it is sickening.

There are a lot of things you are saying I agree with, but I gotta be honest bb, insulting people won't really help get your point across. I find myself nodding in agreement with what you're writing, but still, I think you owe it to your argument to present it in a way that won't antagonize people, so that they will think about what you're saying instead of focusing on the insults. But that's just me. Anyways, you make a good point... just maybe without the side of rage?

Nevertheless, the pervasion of violence in society has served to the desensitization of human suffering, ***which do not have the impacts you're claiming they have***, but raise their own issues, issues that have a legitimate place in conversation.

I can quote too! There are points in the paragraph that are legit, but most, as the part you've bolded out, and the whole "as long as humans are entertained by violence they will be violent", are trollspeak. And there are *A LOT* of things I agree with, not all. *sigh* Reading comprehension, my friend.

mmm nope sorry there was nothing in my original comment that was not ridiculous. At the very most, one sentence.

[identity profile] crystalzelda.livejournal.com 2010-05-03 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, then. That's fair enough. I still think what you said, toned down x100,000 isn't all that ridiculous. Fiction does have a tendency to turn human suffering into entertainment. Guy got stabbed? CSI. Girl got raped? Law and Order: SVU. Is that wrong and awful and terrible? Nah, I watch those shows all the time. Is it a little bit disconcerting? I think so.
