I don't know enough about the fandom to know how much people are shipping Puck with anyone other than Kurt, but I think het shippers are much more sensitive to the he's-an-asshole thing than slash shippers, who either love hate sex or love that "cured of assholery by love" trope.

Note that this is a general statement; of course there are plenty of het shippers who like those tropes. Just not as many as slash shippers, in my experience.

Also, there's her race AND her size, just, you know, so many reasons to marginalize Mercedes with a "she's fantastic!" and then never write about her.

Note: I totally ship them, because I adore Puck even though he's a dick. He's, you know, a thoughtful dick. And just about everyone on that show could "do better."

And then there are slashers who don't like either of those things.
I love how you admit it's a general statement because zomg the het shippers, but no, no, it does apply to all slashers. Psh.

Also, the "cured of assholery" is HUGE in het ships. Just pick up a Mills&Boon or Harlequin novel.

Yes, it's huge in commercial het stuff like that, but much het fanfiction avoids it for just that reason.

I'm sorry, I should have included in my qualification that not all slash shippers like that, either. ALL I was trying to say was that there is MORE room for asshole guys in slash than in het. I didn't mean to imply that all slash shippers like it. I mean, the last time Kurt/Puck came up there weren't nearly as many peopel talking about how Kurt could and should do better, as there are for Mercedes.

I am definitely more okay with shipping guys I dislike in slash ships... even though I identify with both male and female characters somewhat, I guess I do have a bit more of a "but what if it were me or one of my girl friends/sisters?" thing going on with het.

I'd never really thought about that before. Huh. Problematic!
