I don't know enough about the fandom to know how much people are shipping Puck with anyone other than Kurt, but I think het shippers are much more sensitive to the he's-an-asshole thing than slash shippers, who either love hate sex or love that "cured of assholery by love" trope.

Note that this is a general statement; of course there are plenty of het shippers who like those tropes. Just not as many as slash shippers, in my experience.

Also, there's her race AND her size, just, you know, so many reasons to marginalize Mercedes with a "she's fantastic!" and then never write about her.

Note: I totally ship them, because I adore Puck even though he's a dick. He's, you know, a thoughtful dick. And just about everyone on that show could "do better."

I really don't think being fat is necessarily the case as to why Mercedes isn't shipped with Puck. From what I see, most of the fandom, including me, find her beautiful. _{Glee is a very fat friendly show, with the way there's no joke on Mercedes' weight. Glee's so far been one of those shows where I don't ship much or I don't ship anything very hard(with the exception of Will/Emma at the beginning, but after last night Bryan/Will is equally good fffft).

But Puck/Mercedes definitely works in my mind. Just the kind of girl he needs to see what kind of a dick he can be. Unfortuanately, knowing him if he didn't have popularity to gain he'd just say "screw this" the second she pointed anything out.

Plus finding excuses for Puck/Artie tends to fill my Puck shipping space; Puck's actor wants people to ship it.

Like most other people in this thread, I don't ship them because Puck is a fucking douchebag I'd like to punch in the face (and would also completely take advantage of her and break her heart) and Mercedes is AWESOME and deserves much better than him. I really hope Puck wasn't the boyfriend she's supposed to be getting this season because that's just not fair :(

Honestly, I didn't believe he'd go for her because of that. She's awesome and I love her, but he's one shallow bitch. However, "Lady is a Tramp" was so fabulous that I'm gonna overlook it. And besides, the whole point of it was that he was using her for other shallow reasons, and she was totally hip to him and not impressed, but she saw the advantages and went along with it. I actually really liked that; it was too funny.

(...I'm gonna listen to that right now. ~I ADORE THE THEATRE BUT NEVER COME LATE!)
