I wanted to love that film - my friends all raved about it - but I just have a massive infidelity squick.

THANK YOU! Ugh, I had heard how romantic it was and spent the whole movie wondering how lying to/cheating on one's oblivious spouse could be considered romantic.

As for the secret: OP, why not just tell her that you love it, too? If you have similar taste in movies, who cares who gets to pick?

I was half expecting there to be a ~SHOCK TWIST~ that he had been cheating on her the whole time, and I know he got Angel Coulby at the end, and I know that the villain of the piece was heteronormativity, but... I just couldn't. It was so sad for him, it broke my heart.

Ugh, I'd forgotten about that totally random "Here's your consolation girlfriend! All better now?" thing. Because women are so interchangeable and his totally convincing bewilderment and heartbreak weren't real or lasting emotions. That pissed me off so much.

When I first watched it my thoughts were mainly, "FUCK, Angel Coulby is so seriously hot, he is so getting into the mile high club," but that is very true. And his heartbreak was so convincing. </3

The cheated-on husband is by far the most sympathetic character, true. He deserved so much better, but then I don't see the end of the film as "the end", let alone as the "happy ending". Perhaps I'm missing the point...

Ah, we don't have similar taste in films, not at all. Apart from this one.
