at first i didn't see the racist/colonialist nature of it, which i admit was because of my privilege, but i was still horrified and offended when i read the summery and it said it was set in Hati post quake. there is no way a person can in good conscious believe that it wasn't offensive or in horrible taste.

then i started reading the other reactions to it and bits of the fic and realized that yes, that is horribly racist. it was racist as fuck. they named the black cat they find after the magical negro Haitian sidekick FFS!


this secret say more about you than it does about the fandom

Our hero goes to Haiti after the earthquake. Not because he actually cares about the Haitians, but because he has to exorcise his own demons. That's where he meets the ~love of his life~. They have sexytiems in the rubble of Port au Prince and then leave it all behind to go back to America and angst about how hard their lives are.
