Revive that character of yours, somehow. Really. You'll regret it if you don't.
I've had at least two characters connected with other people who I had to put away for a while because of personal issues outside the RP.
Reviving those characters and allowing them to go on without the characters they had originally been connected with was one of the best choices I made RP-wise. I've had some wonderful, amazing plot-lines come these two characters in particular since picking them up and dusting them off again.
It IS hard because their emotional pain gets mixed with your own personal connotations related to that character and that naturally does make you guilty... But really, the characters that make you pine for them are keepers and I'm sure if you really miss that character and lost him completely you'd only feel a different, longer lasting kind of guilt.
The best characters react like people, plow on and grow in experience and personality. Moving them on should not be seen as a disrespect to the player of their S.O and anyone who says otherwise is crazy, in my view.
