Why is it okay for you to use someone else's art to demonstrate all these 'flaws'? Would you be okay with it if someone posted a similar secret and used your artwork?

Maybe that kinda thing is part of the reason people are scared of posting their stuff.

I don't see anything glaringly wrong with the example chosen; it looks great to me? Maybe I'm not too good at critiquing fanart. =/ That seems way harsh and cold though. I hope the artist isn't part of this comm.

I don't think OP was saying "omg this is so terrible", seems like they were referring to the more "eh" fanart out there. The generic sparkly animu kind, I guess. Not awful, but not anything particularly amazing.

So we should just ignore all flaws in everything to spare the creator's feelings? It's terrible only seeing nice comments on art/fic that is honestly not that great. The real way to go about it is to compliment what they're doing right, and try to help them fix what they're doing wrong. If the artist can't handle any criticism to their work, then they shouldn't be posting it.

Well no, it's not hypocritical. S/he is saying that s/he admires people with the courage to post art with questionable anatomy and coloring. OP wasn't making fun of the artist. I fail to find the hypocrisy in that.

If you had any intelligence, you would understand that the word 'fag' has developed a meaning separate from an insult towards homosexuals, a bundle of sticks, or a cigarette. You could even say it has, as you like to put it, become synonymous with being a "useless fuckwit".

I think we have strayed a little off-topic here. Getting back on track, I would genuinely like you to explain why you think OP is a hypocrite.

Not that the first anon is great for using the language, but they do have a point in there somewhere. The art posted is mediocre in the non-insulting meaning of the word. The artist has probably come a long ways, but still has a long way to go. Also, it's not meant to be insulting to the artist in question, and to be honest, I think providing only positive feedback would be a lot worse.

Contrary to popular opinion mediocre really shouldn't be an insult, especially for the people who are fairly new artists (as in only drawing for a few years) or for those who really aren't trying to take it further.

No, you're reading the secret wrong. OP admires the people who are confident enough to post their art despite its flaws. You cannot say that the image used is a stunning example of perfect anatomical proportions. It's a good picture, but it's mediocre and needs improvement. But good for the artist anyway for putting him/herself out there.

No, you can't say that. The OP is wishing he/she had enough guts to post as the artist of this example did. She's scared of posting, as are most people when it comes to publicly outing their work. One of the main reasons people are scared is the possibility of ridicule, the OP states that with the way the secret is worded. Using someone's picture as an example of mediocre work is pretty hypocritical as the OP is doing to the artist something he/she is afraid of themselves.
