I wouldn't be that mean, but the whining does annoy me. Also, I can understand if someone has some kind of animal phobia because of a bad experience in childhood or a scary experience with a certain animal, but I don't get fear of spiders or snakes when people have no negative experiences with these animals. It makes me feel really bad because both spiders and snakes are really important to the environment and eat pests like flies, mosquitoes, rats, etc. They are good to have around (I actually think snakes are cute so IDK, maybe I'm biased). Such a small percentage of them are poisonous and as long as you can recognize and avoid the poisonous variety they are no more harmful than other animals

Oh my god you're right! Thanks to your wonderful insight that spiders aren't dangerous to me in any way surely my fear of them will dissapear!

Snakes are creepy. They shed their skins everywhere. They'll eat themselves.

There are snakes that are poisonous.
And I saw Indiana Jones when I was really little. There were all those snakes festering on top of each other.

You realize that phobias are sort of irrational, right? Like, there's no good reason to have them?

Anyway, it is possible to understand the place a certain creature has in the world and why they are good to have around, and still not want it to be anywhere near you. I'm totally cool with spiders existing, and even being near me, I sure as hell don't want them touching me.

Also, and this is just a pet peeve of mine, snakes and spiders aren't poisonous. They're venemous. Poisons are ingested, venoms are injected.

I remember reading somewhere that spider/snake phobias along with things like the dark and fire are most likly caused by racial memory as these are the things that would have been dangerous to our cave dwelling ancestors.

Clowns are another one that comes under this as many rival clans most likly used face paint as a way to scare the people they were attacking and so the make up clowns use brings forth that memort or so they say.

Snakes used to be associated with positive attributes, though, if you look at the way they've been used as symbols by ancient civilizations.

Also, to the people above (late comment, I know), I realize that phobias are irrational, and I'm not hating you for it or anything, I just think it's a shame that arachnophobia and ophiophobia are such common phobias. Also, if you live in North America there are very, very few species of life-threatening poisonous spiders and the vast majority of snakes are non-poisonous.

Maybe I'm biased because of all the times I've seen people kill spiders for no reason at all even though they were just hanging out on a wall not even bothering anyone :(
