At least we don't read, write or look at pedophilia (hello shota), don't encourage stereotypes (UKE SEME ZOMG!) and don't encourage a horrible image of women (huge boobs, stupid, etc etc).

Wait, so shota RPS never exists, and neither do ukes or semes in RPS, and oh yeah, RPS isn't only with hot pop stars, right? I mean... I don't even mind RPS, but don't act like it's something chaste and untainted or something.

I'm not. I'm talking about the bandslash fandom which those two secrets are about. We just don't have shota. Also, sexual position are more interchangeable in bandom, as in most other slash (as opposed to yaoi) fandoms.

Bandslash would have shota if bands had kids in them. And sure, sexual positions are interchangeable, but they still have people turning some people into weepy ukes and others into raging semes. I'm just saying, all fandoms have their bad points, and none of them are worse than another.

Not if those kids were below 15. I've read a lot of bandslash fic, and there aren't even AUs in which the boys (and girls) are below 16 or 17.
I wasn't saying that bandom didn't have bad points, I was just saying that the stereotype 'seme/uke' will occur more frequently in anime/manga/game based fandoms.
*shrugs*
I don't wanna start a fight with you - I just felt those secrets were unjustified probably coming from somebody who doesn't know shit about bandslash. (And just for the record, I've been involved in a lot of anime/manga based fandoms, so I believe I kind of can make comparisons.)

LOL. I'm not in any of the RPF fandoms, so don't get technical dividing me off into one niche or another. My secret isn't about bandslash, it's about all fanfiction that involves real living people. I don't care how ethical you think you are, nothing that people write about fictional characters (who cannot actually be harmed or offended by even the freakiest fetish porn or outright slander) can possibly top the sheer creepiness of writing about actual living breathing human beings.

Paris Hilton is a worse image of women than any anime/videogame woman that's ever existed. And I'm positive there's RPF about her or Nicole whatshername.

Again, I'm talking about bandslash fandom.
(And I agree that Paris Hilton is a horrible role model - but in contrast to most women/girls in anime, she earns her own money and is relatively independent from men.)

I'm really DYING to know what animes you watch that you think "most" anime girls are like that. My bets are on hentai.

Re: 9+10

(Anonymous) 2007-05-11 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Er, no, actually not.
If you compare stereotypical heroines of shoujo series, you will notice that most of them share the feature of being dependent on a man in one way or another (Sailormoon, all Yuu Watase series etc). That applies to many shounen series too. Also, girls who seems strong at first (i.e. Sakura of Naruto) prove to have the same character trait.

[identity profile] dots.livejournal.com 2007-05-11 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
But there are plenty of anime girls that aren't like that -- see icon for example. 8) Admittedly, I'm not way into anime like I used to be, but I think it's unfair to say "most."

(Judging from the wikipedia description of the character she seems like a plain mary sue to me :)
But sure, there are exceptions - but they're rare because the reception for realistic characters is not as good as for tragic/beautiful/special/dependent ones because they don't meet the Japanese ideal of women.

I THINK PARIS HILTON WOULD BE A FASCINATING CHARACTER IF SHE WAS WRITTEN RIGHT. AND IF SHE WAS FICTIONAL because I don't like RPF.

I've seen shota, incest, BDSM, and there's femmeslash too. (And I'm only thinking about the Hanson and Backstreet Boys (which I'm lumping the House of Carters fandom into, since 99% of the HoC fans are BSB fans) fandoms.

So yeah... I see the original posters' squicks in these secret. Doesn't mean I'm gonna stop writing it, because it's my cup of tea.
