I don't know, I felt like Proposition Infinity (last week's ep) was the best of the batch so far, and the first one that really reminded me of that classic vibe. I think it'll continue to pick up.

Attack of the App was pretty bad but Proposition Infinity was fabulous! The main thing that feels off to me is the timing. I think they will get back into the swing soon though. Its been seven years since they last made an episode. I think the writers are used to the pacing of the films. Give it some time. I'm happy to see them back at all!

I like the new season so far and I know I'll like all of it. Just like with anything else, heck, just like with the past five seasons and the movies... There are bits I don't like. It's natural. That's how it works. You can't love it all.

And seriously? I'm just so happy we're even getting a new season.

Eh, we've only got 4 so far, and tbh Classic Futurama was pretty hit-and-miss. It has truly great episodes and a lot that are just eh.

I'm just excited it's back, and it's decent. It does feel like they're kind of playing 'catch up' with pop culture references, but I think the overall it's been fairly solid.

Personally speaking, I liked the new episodes so far and think the app one was the best from what I've seen. That said, OP, I think you're judging this season too early. Who knows? You may even like the next new episode. Also, of course this series feels different. Did you honestly expect its writers to not change how they script these episodes after so many years off the air?

The new episodes aren't clever and are relying way too much on trying to appear current with all their pop culture references, and mostly failing. Which is ironic for a show set in the future.



Tangentially related, I would like to slap every mainstream TV writer in existence and tell them that just saying the word "Twitter" does not make a witty, relevant joke.

I think there's a little to much pop culture and not enough geeky jokes in the new episodes, but then again, the eyePhone episode was all geek... and also all pop culture. Maybe geekery is just more "in" now than it was 10 years ago.

But what you need to remember is that the old episodes have the advantage of being, well, old. We've seen them a lot, and they've become classic. "Good news everyone!" didn't become a meme the day after the professor said it the first time - this stuff takes time. Futurama is like wine: it gets better as it ages. It's still good fresh, but doesn't have the same richness to it because it hasn't aged yet.

I've been watching this show since the day it first aired back in 1999. I've been waiting this past year for it's return, just like you. As of yet, I have yet to be severely disappointed, despite a few wtf moments. So I can't really say I see your point of view, OP. I'm just glad it's back at all, and I look forward to every episode.
