Ugh. Yeah. I have the same problem. I know it's unfair, but that combined with beta male/Nice guy bullshit on 4chan, I'm dubious of every dude I meet, unless I meet him at a Women's Rights related venue or something. I'm trying to get over it (by going to 4chan less and never ever watching Family Guy) but it's hard.

And if anyone of either gender says "OMG Family Guy is my favorite show!!!!" They lose MASSIVE points from me.

So much ick.

That's one of the reasons I don't go there often. I can handle /adv/, /tv/, and a few other boards, but /a/, /r9k/ and /b/ are so misogynistic that it's downright depressing.

It when a thread descends into a bunch of whining by guys who say things like "But I'm such a nice guy, women don't like nice guys they only want assholes!!!"

Yup. I was always aware of the sexism in our world, but it was in internet that I really realized how common these beliefs are. However, unlike you I really do hate men and wouldn't give a damn if someone who makes rape jokes would get raped.

Only places in internet where it's possible to even bring gender to discussion without men attacking you are places like LJ with female majority. I stopped reading my favorite newspaper because it's website always linked to comments and they were FILLED with sexism (and racism etc). Same goes for every single major news site I know. Just few days ago I saw a comment on very popular business site that said that "women lie about everything" and it had HUNDREDS of thumbs up.

4chan is the largest english language forum in internet (correct me if I'm wrong). /b/ takes about 30-40% of the traffic. We are not talking about few bitter nerds - the open sexism and racism simply reflect the thoughts of your average 15-25 year old male. It's he same way everywhere.

Gaia online is actually the biggest forum and while its less crude and disgusting it still has its share of pretty horrible people.

And I never thought about it before but you're totally right, livejournal is the only place I personally have seen consistent serious GOOD conversations on this subject. There's a community here, ontd_feminism, that I love reading and it's really changed how I think about a lot of things. If you have another website in mind I'd love the link?

Only other places I'm aware of are blogs. I read few (radical) feminist blogs that have plenty of commentary:
