Wow, what an interesting precedent you've set.
Does that mean it's okay to hate all women because of Patty & Selma?

Not defending MacFarlane's rampant misogyny. The man's a tool. Just saying, hate isn't the answer to hate. And you shouldn't project your grievances with one individual onto an entire fucking gender.

Does that mean it's okay to hate all women because of Patty & Selma?

Apples and oranges! OP doesn't hate men because of Peter Griffin, but rather hates the misogynist humor is shown as a good thing in the show and that there are a great deal of men who enjoy said humor. (Or at least that's how I'm reading it.)

i actually really like patty and selma, they're great characters. sure they're not awesome people, but its great to see female characters that are actually fun and funny and don't have to be the kind, sweet voice of reason

anyway nobody cares about that but i'm just sayin', if anything they should make people like women BETTER

I agree.... I think hating men assuming that all men are misogynists just encourages the idea that being a misogynist is "manly", and encourages men to act that way.

doing it wrong

(Anonymous) 2010-07-15 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Wishing rape on someone who's marginally annoying really gave you the moral high ground here.

(Anonymous) 2010-07-15 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't put it like that, but Peter Griffin makes me want to delete the whole channel off the menu, just to make sure I don't accidentally get to it while FG is on.

And if given the chance, I'd like nothing more than to kick MacFarlane in the groin!

(Anonymous) 2010-07-15 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
S'why I hate Family Guy. In The Simpsons you could nearly always tell they love each other, but in Family Guy the woman loves her fat ugly misogynistic husband and the guy beats her up/humiliates her/does whatever he pleases with no remorse in the end? And people find it funny?

But just because one guy's an idiot you shouldn't project it on the whole one half of world's populace. The solution to this is easy, just don't watch the show and stop contributing to the ratings.

[identity profile] ampers-and.livejournal.com 2010-07-15 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I'm always saying. In the Simpsons, you know they're good people in the end, they just act stupid.
The characters in Family Guy are loathsome. I've no interest in watching horrible people do horrible things.

AGREED on that last statement. Though, I don't watch FG when I can help it, so I'm not really affected to get like the first bit. But I can definitely feel for you OP. *hugs*

[identity profile] mysticlynx.livejournal.com 2010-07-15 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Hating an entire gender would be pushing it(though I can't say I've haven't had fits of raeg like this), but it does upset me how many people find it hilarious. For a while, it was almost tolerable, now its just gotten out of control. I know men and women who find it funny, however. Maybe he is just giving them what they want?

[identity profile] ignixferroque.livejournal.com 2010-07-15 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't hate a whole gender, OP. And I wouldn't wish those things on SMF, even if he writes shit like this. Repeating what the others have said, Family Guy used to be somewhat tolerable, but at least in the Simpsons it wasn't wanton hatred for one another, and there were episodes where they came through for each other in a comical sort of way.

I know it's probably not a popular view, but it ticks me off when one of the family members has something good happen for them, and the rest of the family gets pissed off that one of them is happier and "acting like a douchebag," so they go out of their way to destroy the good thing they've got going (a la when Brian met his son, or when Joe was able to walk).

There's a reason I'd rather watch South Park than FG; crass as it can get, SP makes fun of everyone. It doesn't just pander to the more liberal demographic and when they get preachy (SP), at least it's creative. Lois might be more conservative and naggy, but the misogynist shit got old a long time ago, and they play it off as though someone wanting to have the values she has is wrong, stupid, etc. Also really tired of how kicked around Meg gets, as if hearing her own parents constantly talk about how they regret or despise her existence is somehow hilarious. Thanks Seth, life is shitty enough as it is, stop being a fucktard by reminding us about how fucked up the world can be--that's what the internet is for.

But yeah, just... don't watch the show, don't give it ratings. He wants the shock value to get a rise out of people, and it's not worth your anxiety.

Ugh.

You know, I hate Family Guy too. You know what else I hate? Rape. I hate rape so much that I don't think anyone deserves to be raped. Anyone. At all. Not people who think rape is funny. Not even people who have committed rape.

Shocking, right?

Ugh. Yeah. I have the same problem. I know it's unfair, but that combined with beta male/Nice guy bullshit on 4chan, I'm dubious of every dude I meet, unless I meet him at a Women's Rights related venue or something. I'm trying to get over it (by going to 4chan less and never ever watching Family Guy) but it's hard.

And if anyone of either gender says "OMG Family Guy is my favorite show!!!!" They lose MASSIVE points from me.

So much ick.

I feel your anger, but wishing rape on real people isn't the way to go.

You know what I do? Write fanfic. Yeah, I know the idea of FG fanfic sound pretty dumb, but it's my way of reclaiming a show I once found quite entertaining (but has now become and endless spiral of misogyny and "hay I hate this famous person").

(Anonymous) 2010-07-16 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
way to assume that he hasn't been abused in his past. i mean, has he ever came out and said that he hasn't been? people find different things funny, deal with it.

(Anonymous) 2010-07-16 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
You're probably going to get jumped on with misandry charges, so I'm just going to assume that admission is the first step and that's the reason why you made this secret.

I agree with you. MacFarlane is an ass. I'm not sure what he's pushing the boundaries of...women have been keeping us down for so long, with their vaginas and their wiles, and their long shiny hair and nice smells! Making rape and abuse jokes is subversive because we are Davids taunting Goliath TRUFAX

[identity profile] xlovelylightx.livejournal.com 2010-07-17 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't give up on all men, I am sure there are a lot of men who find the crap Family Guy pulls disgusting and offensive. You just haven't seen or heard from any yet because they probably avoid the show at all costs.

While I wouldn't wish rape on anyone, I do agree that the creator of Family Guy is a sexist, racist douchebag who uses controversy as a tool to get ratings and I'd love to see him be locked in a room with the people he keeps mocking because I don't think he realises that some of the jokes do have the potential to really hurt people's feelings.
