I went unanon on a meme because I was gonna post the fill on my journal anyway and it just seemed weird not to. I sort of regretted doing it that way because, like you said, it doesn't look right. if I ever do it again, I'm staying anon.

(Anonymous) 2010-07-18 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel the same way. Luckily, I HOST my favourite kink meme, so I can do something about it.

[identity profile] iiiskaaa.livejournal.com 2010-07-18 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
It doesn't bother me when people go unanon to post fic, but I do kind of feel like when people do it to request something, they're trying to use whatever popularity/name recognition they have in the fandom to get their prompt filled, and that annoys me.

[identity profile] jlh.livejournal.com 2010-07-18 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It doesn't bother me when people go unanon to post fics, especially if they're going to post it in their LJ anyway. On the kink meme I most often frequent there's a mix of anon and unanon fill posting.

[identity profile] tuff-ghost.livejournal.com 2010-07-18 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm often unanon on my fandom's kinkmeme but I'm sure it's ok because I don't contribute anything :3

(Anonymous) 2010-07-18 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
It's true, you're the only one who doesn't annoy me by going unanon on there. (Except for people posting longfic.) You must be magic.

(Anonymous) 2010-07-19 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes, it makes you look like the only "person" on the kinkmeme!

lol

I hate when people do that...there was someone in my fandom who did that all the time when she first started writing for our kink meme, then she claimed being under "too much stress" when people started coming down on her to stop doing all the attention whore-y things she kept doing, and she "took a break from fandom." A month or two later she came back and just seeing her username in the main comm pisses me off, because I remember all the shit she used to do.

(Anonymous) 2010-07-18 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Sucks for them, because when I see people doing that, I assume they're attention whores, and from that moment on, I treat every post of theirs as something not worth bothering with.

Or... maybe we don't have a paid account and we want to know when our prompt is filled.

I'm not ashamed of my kinks, I own up to them. I realize it's supposed to be anon, but getting the reply in my e-mail is easier than adding a bookmark.

Ever since my fandom's anon kink meme was flooded with comments from a certain *censored* who stubbornly tried to argued that the meme host saying "these are the rules, please abide by them" did not, in fact, mean SHE SHOULD FUCKING FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE MEME, and that since she only used her then account for kink memes, so it came down to the same thing as being anonymous even though you could, obviously, PICK OUT HER FUCKING USERNAME EACH AND EVERY TIME SHE POSTED... Perhaps the capslock gave it away - I see red.

I dunno. Feels bad man. :(

(Anonymous) 2010-07-18 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I hate it especially because the person who does this on the kink meme I go do has this icon that for some reason just ANNOYS THE SHIT OUT OF ME. It is just an out-of-focus image of a character making a stupid face and every time I see it I just want to hurt something.

and it's just THAT ICON over and over. So I get what you are saying.

I don't mind owning up to things I've written for a kinkmeme. Usually if it's in multiple parts, or a WIP, I post entirely on the kinkmeme, and then when it's done, I clean it up and post it to my journal. I don't post a link to it on the KM. It's a small fandom, so inevitably there's a chance that someone will recognize that I wrote the fic, but it's not like I'm *advertising* what I did, so I consider it a compromise.

[identity profile] 0o0f.livejournal.com 2010-07-19 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
It annoys me too, but then again, if it's not against the rules, I can't really complain. And I understand if people prefer getting email notifications incase it takes a while for their request to get filled.

[identity profile] fairhearing.livejournal.com 2010-07-19 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
I admit I'd prefer it if everyone was anon, everywhere, on kink memes (like the first 30 pages or so of the Phoenix Wright meme, holy shit that was a time of magic). Just because staying anonymous is protective not just for the prompter, but for the filler and people who comment on the fill, too -- an un-anonymous person showing up basically eliminates one possibility in the minds of the readers as to who might have been responsible for the fic (or even just leaving the "I CAME" comment), and in a small fandom -- or a small pairing in a big fandom -- one possibility can mean a lot. Not to mention the resulting obligations to comment, or not to comment, or the connotations the story now has, etc.

That said, I understand why people might do it. And, you know, after a while it's hard for prolific writers to hide their identities even while anon.

Still, sometimes I wish we had forced anon like at /b/ (do they still have that or has moot relaxed again)

(Anonymous) 2010-07-19 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
It annoys the hell out of me when people wring all of the fun out of kink memes.

I don't mind if people un-anon. I also don't mind seconding, errant comments, and side conversations, all of which are inoffensive at worst and fun at best. I'd rather people enjoy themselves than another kink meme die because of a lack of participation.

In a KM I participate in, there are several un-anons who I wish would stay anon. One writes such bad fics I don't even bother thinking about reading them whenever I see their username.
And the others are really obnoxious and seem to kinda be attention-whores. Which sucks because kinkmemes are fun for the fact that everyone's their to enjoy fandom, not to try and be the center of attention.

[identity profile] fire-at-wi11.livejournal.com 2010-07-19 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
This whole thread just makes me go O_o

Anyway, I guess I'd rather be a so-called attention whore than a bitchy-anon who goes around insulting and complaining about everyone and everything just because it can't get traced back to their username. -_-;

It's a kink meme FFS. It's supposed to be about fun and porn! It's not HURTING you if people don't want to go anon. Just have fun and enjoy the damn porn.

(Anonymous) 2010-07-19 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm only really on one kinkmeme, and I've got to say it annoys me when people go un-anon, mostly because I see being anon as a sort of equalizer. If you're posting anon, people will judge your story on its own merits, and not because it's been written by this BNF or that popular person, and that's a good thing. Also, it's a great way to get out of your "corner" and write something people wouldn't expect of you, and have people read it without preconcieved notions about how it should be.

I don't go anon because I'm ashamed of my fic. Often, I'll clean up and edit a kinkmeme fill and post it on my fic journal and to the comms a few days later. But sometimes, even with stories I'm really proud of, I won't. Simply because it's fun to think about how many people on my f-list might have read that fill on the KM and will never have an idea as to who was behind it. I kind of like that feeling.

(Anonymous) 2010-07-19 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the masked ball aspect of anon kms, and someone going unmasked kinda ruins it a little...

Myself, I prefer to go anon, but one thing I do find annoying about posting anonymously is that you can't edit it! There's always one stupid typo--and this is after betaing and what not...

(Anonymous) 2010-07-19 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
You're right - it is petty. I'm only on one kink meme and I never go anon. I don't see why I should have too - it's not stated in the rules that it has to be anon, and I'm not ashamed of my kinks, so why hide that it's me? Also, shouldn't a kink meme really be about the kink, and not whether the comments look all nice together?

This is totally ridiculous. I can't believe people actually get their panties in a wad over someone deciding to OWN UP TO THEIR OWN COMMENTS, seriously, jesus.

I thought the point of anon kink memes was that people CAN post anonymously if they wish to hide their identity (given the subject matter...), not that they HAVE to. I can't think of anything more petty to get upset about.

Also, there are times when it might really help a poster to get their prompt filled TO go un-anon. There was a guy on the Who kinkmeme who prompted scat...and if he hadn't posted under his own username (because yes, he lists "scat" in his interests - I checked) I would have assumed the prompt was taking the piss.

As it so happens, I didn't end up filling that prompt - but I was a lot more sympathetic to the idea of doing so when I could see that it was for real, and not some ass going, "let's see if anyone will be brave enough to fill THIS, LULZ!" And the fill he DID get - whether or not it actually worked for him, I have no way of knowing - was a serious fill, and not something cracktastic. I imagine that's more likely to happen if people know you aren't joking.

(Anonymous) 2010-07-20 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
I prefer it when people stay anon if they're posting a fill or requesting something. Random comments, I don't mind so much or if they post the fill at their own journal too, or if someone owns up to requesting a certain prompt. idk, that's just the way I'm used to. It was very jarring to go from one kink meme where mostly everyone was anon to another kink meme where half of the people were anon, half weren't.
