Every single female character from the Resident Evil series?

...I don't understand why people don't play more games. Back in the day a fandom friend of mine went on a rant about how games portray women as sex objects and how horrible it is and blah de blah - no, they really don't. Not most of them. I mean there's DoA but there are also ~~sexy~~ tv shows, films, and books.

It came out that, unsurprisingly, the only games she'd played were Final Fantasy and other JRPGs and gooooo figuuuuuure. Those games are almost all about some mushy romance, with female characters that are as cutesy wutesy as possible so as not to threaten their otaku fanbase >_>

tl;dr - if you tried them you'd be surprised how well games with guns treat female characters, actually.

...Never hooks up with any dude in the game nor has a romantic subplot with one? Is a lone exception, a relatively helpless civilian amongst bikers, spies, UN Peacekeepers, field medics, and even an ex-SFOD-D special forces operator?

What about her? As escort missions go she could have been less annoying (Leon could've given her any one of his arsenal of weaponry) but also more annoying (at least she ducks when you're aiming and will hide in things if you tell her to). She makes one vague pass at admittedly attractive dude, and nothing comes of it. What of it? She still proves my point o_O

Ada, hello? Crush on Leon keeps interfering with her missions? Spontaneously loses all her competence so they have a reason to be together for short periods of time? Deliberately withholds information just to create an illusion of mystery and romance?

I'd hardly say her life and role revolves around romance. She uses her charms to get what she wants in the end (or were you not paying attention to how she used Leon to succeed at the end of RE4? >_>) but ultimately her first priority is to get her mission done. Yes, she has a distracting crush on Leon.

But so does Steve on Claire. It's hardly the defining characteristic nor the sole purpose for the existence of either of them.

...Kinda... interesting to notice that the two ladies taking the most flak are the two that have the audacity to be attracted to the hottest dude in the series... despite the fact that he doesn't hook up with either of them, and Steve and Carlos and other male characters act basically the same way - I mean, Steve acts even worse, cocking up their entire escape because he's too busy staring at Claire's ass - and they don't get shit on by the fandom for it.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I know, anon. It isn't entirely their fault - RE4 broke the series wide open, but it was a drastic change in tone and many new fans don't seem to realize it. Ah well, I like to keep a good thought.

Okay, it's sad that it took Final Fantasy thirteen installments to get there, but seriously these ladies are awesome.

Light and Fang are the best. They were both modelled on boys, apparently, so that's probably why they have such a striking difference (and why Fang/Vanille is surprisingly textual).

(Vanille's awesome, too. I have a soft spot for her and FFX Rikku, because the cutesy-wutesy stuff is a deliberate act on their part.)

Though there's no shortage of cutesy-wutesy boys in Final Fantasy games.
