I'm half white and half black too, OP, and in fantasy universes you see a LOT of purebred whatevers because there's so much racial essentialism. (This might be why I love Seamus Finnigan so much.) It kinda sucks. I don't really look to fantasy (or some sci fi) universes for any kind of representation of mixed race people. (Not that there aren't any, but there tend to not be any.)

Anyway, at least at the end of the TV show, there are two interracial couples and we know that one of them goes on to have kids, because one of their kids will be a character in the sequel that Mike and Bryan have planned. So there's the future of the world. I'm thinking that in the current timeline with the Air Nomads gone and the Water Tribe more than decimated and the Earth Kingdom under attack, not to mention the imperialist leanings of the Fire Nation, there wasn't a lot of opportunity for the kind of travel that leads to racial intermixing. But if the imperialism had been allowed to continue, I'm sure there would have been more of it (in a not so good way).
