Okay, since people have been complaining for a long time:

I'm floored at all the "No"s. Do people actually enjoy the wank some of these RP secrets cause?

Damnit, yes.

I stopped checking the comm the moment the only thing I could read was "I LYK DIS RP BUT U MAED IT SUK ROACHDICK SO I HAET IT NAO." Which means I probably haven't clicked a single link in two months.

Hmm, I don't know. If people dislike fandomsecrets as it is, then wouldn't it make more sense for an alternative community with some kind of specified 'no RP secrets' rule? They could even make the community themselves, if they're incensed enough about this.

The current plan seems to be ostracizing people who use this community for the way it was originally intended - secrets about fandom. If RPing isn't part of fandom, I don't really know what it is :|

While it is true that RPs do make a large percentage of fandom, the only RP secrets I been seeing are one-on-one sessions that have gone sour and no one knows what the hell the secret-maker is yammering on about, or disgruntled ex-rpers/rejected applicants bashing a popular RP community and it's so-called fans coming to defend that RP comm's honor in some way, shape or form and it all turns into a giant mess.

Would you prefer to be cleaning up all the wank those secrets cause?

Aside from just barring RP secrets altogether? Sadly, I can't think of any real middle ground solution either.

What about all the secrets that target bad fanfiction, or those occasions where someone's fan art is put on trial? Should they be banned too? They're equally guilty of creating wank, after all, and they're equally aimed at a specific people.

If RP Secrets are banned, it kinda opens the way for all manner of potential debate - and I'm sure it's just a matter of time before 'lol fandomsecrets is serious business' becomes the banner cry of the confused.

Because really, I am confused by this! Is it really that troubling for people to not read/focus on secrets they're not interested in? I browse past fandoms I don't know all the time.

... People say the exact same thing about fandoms. I don't really see how that's different. D:

I was gonna cite the very same example - Tales of the Abyss remains unreleased in the United Kingdom and so I... scroll past the Abyss secrets! Dun dun duuun!

Of course, it's incredibly time-consuming to do so. And every glimpse of the secret I'm not interested in reading, well, it rends my very soul. No, really. owwww.

TalesofYadaYada secrets don't bother me either, I ignore those too. I'm talking about the ones that make F!S their personal crusade forum to either bash a RP comm like Paixiao or Paradisa or some other RP comm with some fruity-assed sounding name or to defend it.

Eh, but whatever.

Fanfic secrets! Fanart secrets! Yaoi secrets! Anime-only-no-manga-no-spoilers-Japanese-with-fansubs-only secrets!

[livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets: the new Christianity?

[identity profile] subversive.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, yes it would. Then we'd have to have massive amounts of fighting between the groups and attempts to "convert" each other. Fun!

And yes, I know what you mean. XD It'd suck if it did happen, but if the people voting "Yes" win... bleargh. :/

[identity profile] shigishigi.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not so much the secret in itself as it is everyone saying the exact same thing with a different fandom. I would feel the exact same way if people did the same thing but with a different topic.

When things start to form a trend, it becomes unfun. I visit the comm to find my lulz and maybe realize that I share something with someone else. The joke's run its course and that's that.

[identity profile] eiviiaru.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed with a lot of the previous comments: if you start balkanizing secret types based on wank potential, you're never going to stop. Every complaint mentioned about RP secrets -- ranting about how something SUX, being incomprehensible to anyone but the secret poster, etc. -- is echoed in tons of non-RP secrets, so it seems strange to say that RP by definition is the problem.

[identity profile] fairness.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't even RP that much, but I still like the RP secrets. Every type of secret will cause some sort of wank, it's just the nature of a secrets community. I see no reason to make another comm for RP secrets altogether.

[identity profile] mercale.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG let's create a new secret community for... any secrets that you don't like! OMG LOLZ!

Seriously, are you looking forward to 5 secret a day posts? I mean, I know a lot of the big secret submitters do both non RP and RP secrets.

Get over yourselves. Just scroll past what you don't like. Hell, I don't understand HALF of the secrets out there because of my limited anime/game exposure. You know what I do?

I DON'T LOOK!

And as I'm typing this, the 'nos' are winning. So you know what I say to that?

HYEE! (a new term of joy created by, wait for it, RP!)

Besides, that's another comm for me to check and then all the stealth Jiro secrets would be gone....
