Okay, since people have been complaining for a long time:

I'm floored at all the "No"s. Do people actually enjoy the wank some of these RP secrets cause?

[identity profile] shigishigi.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Damnit, yes.

I stopped checking the comm the moment the only thing I could read was "I LYK DIS RP BUT U MAED IT SUK ROACHDICK SO I HAET IT NAO." Which means I probably haven't clicked a single link in two months.

Hmm, I don't know. If people dislike fandomsecrets as it is, then wouldn't it make more sense for an alternative community with some kind of specified 'no RP secrets' rule? They could even make the community themselves, if they're incensed enough about this.

The current plan seems to be ostracizing people who use this community for the way it was originally intended - secrets about fandom. If RPing isn't part of fandom, I don't really know what it is :|

Agreed with a lot of the previous comments: if you start balkanizing secret types based on wank potential, you're never going to stop. Every complaint mentioned about RP secrets -- ranting about how something SUX, being incomprehensible to anyone but the secret poster, etc. -- is echoed in tons of non-RP secrets, so it seems strange to say that RP by definition is the problem.

I don't even RP that much, but I still like the RP secrets. Every type of secret will cause some sort of wank, it's just the nature of a secrets community. I see no reason to make another comm for RP secrets altogether.

OMG let's create a new secret community for... any secrets that you don't like! OMG LOLZ!

Seriously, are you looking forward to 5 secret a day posts? I mean, I know a lot of the big secret submitters do both non RP and RP secrets.

Get over yourselves. Just scroll past what you don't like. Hell, I don't understand HALF of the secrets out there because of my limited anime/game exposure. You know what I do?

I DON'T LOOK!

And as I'm typing this, the 'nos' are winning. So you know what I say to that?

HYEE! (a new term of joy created by, wait for it, RP!)

[identity profile] colortheory.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Leave them. An RP secrets ban would be a pain in the ass to implement, and it REALLY ISN'T THAT HARD to scroll past secrets you don't like, etc. I do it all the time.

RP is just as fandom-y as our numerous OMG REAL PERSON SLASH--IN DEFENSE OR BASHING! secrets. Plus, I'm willing to lay money that MOST of the people on this community DO RP. If they're wanky, so the hell what? Lots of things cause wank.

[identity profile] dots.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It's been said. RP is usually some kind of fandom thing, so barring it from a fandom comm is pretty ridiculous. You can argue for the wank issue all you like, but the fact is, that "I hate gays even though I write slash" secret caused more wank than all those RP secrets put together. People who say all RP secrets cause wank haven't been looking, because usually, the RP secrets get passed over unless they're just that brutal and hateful, and then they get laughed at. Which isn't particularly wank.

[identity profile] friendshipbeam.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely not. I hate being restricted or segregated because people don't want to hear what I have to say.

[identity profile] held.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
i actually don't think they're that big of a deal. you ban one thing, then some other trend will happen, and people will complain about those too. it'll be a neverending cycle.

[identity profile] misheard.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Keep. That's what scroll buttons are for!

[identity profile] kyaa.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Keep them, please! They warm the cockles of my heart.

[identity profile] mccarthief.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
If people are making such big deal then why not have one post per week that's just rp secrets? That way people who hate that type can avoid that post.

[identity profile] melting.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I love RP secrets.

That having been said, a community for just RP secrets would be too small to be effective. It'd start out with.. what, 20 people? And everyone would know who posted what secret.

I mean, geez, they already do a lot of the time.

[identity profile] luzerna.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're going to ban roleplay secrets then you might as well block anything about fanart, fanfiction, icons, and whatever other fandom activity I forgot to mention, seeing as they're all potential wankwagons. It's already been said so I sound like a broken record, but people are just going to start complaining about something else once their first target's gone.

Besides, RP secrets make up about 50% of the total amount. [livejournal.com profile] mccarthief's idea is good, but I think we'd end up having tiny secret posts all week except for the one gigantic RP post. I personally don't care for them but it's easier to keep them where they are. :C If it bothers someone so much they should make a community for it themselves.
