That's probably because the show did a pretty goddamn convincing job showing that Mulder and Scully are soulmates (not, like, capital-S Twilight-esque SOUUUUUULMAAAATES, but really really good matches for each other), and thinking of either one of them with anyone else is like thinking of your happily married parents stepping out on each other. The mind rebels.

But that's okay -- Scully/Doggett are still hot. Scully/Skinner, too.

I shipped M/S from the get go and when Doggett got introduced I expect to hate him but by the time Scully threw that glass of water on his face I fell hard. Plus Doggett was so sweet to her and they were so hot, I felt so guilty at first because I'd shipped Mulder/Scully for so long.

I never really caved. Plus I stopped watching a few eps into that season, then just read spoilers to see when Duchovney or the Lone Gunmen were coming back (Then they killed TLG in that ep, no love). Every time he was sweet to her it just made me want to grab him by the wrist and swat his nose with a rolled up newspaper and say, "No. No."

IDK, Doggett was just so, normal? Right? Mainstream. Boring. And to me The X-Files was more about people like Mulder and The Lone Gunman, and even Scully when she was honest with herself.

Never got the Skinner slash either. He seemed more like the bridge between the normal and abnormal worlds, with a steady foot in the mainstream.

That's how I felt, too. Doggett's actually an okay character, but he's not really what the X-Files is about -- I prefer the more not-exactly normal characters and I think that's what makes me love the show in the first place.

Mulder and Scully is the reason I know what shipping is. Like, I thought that XF fandom was where the term got coined although I'm probably wrong.

And the character's name was something Dogget. Idk I stopped watching when Mulder left. I think I stopped watching a little before that happened, actually...

I was--I used to go there when I was first online (Ever, not the first time I signed on.). I was even a "DDTeen" aka a teenage version of the David Duchovney fan group the "Duchovniks."

I feel old now, since I just found DDTeens referenced on fanhistory.com

It's too bad I can't specifically remember though. I have fuzzy memories of talking about the new term but I couldn't tell you for sure.

I was actually sick to death of Scully/Mulder by the time Doggett showed up, so he was pretty much a breath of fresh air to me. Still miss him more than anyone else on that show (okay, maybe not including Skinner.)

It's weird, Mulder/Scully is my OTP but I really enjoy Scully/Doggett and have even written a few fic for the pair. I also enjoy Doggett/Reyes. It's okay, y'know? People should be more accepting of multishipping!!!
