Yeah, I completely agree.

[identity profile] dethtoll.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
If NCFOM is incoherent that is entirely the fault of the book. Why do you hate punctuation so, Mr. McCarthy!? What did it ever do to you?!

He was molested by his English teacher in eighth grade and she never gave him her number and he's still really bitter about it.

mmmmm dat soundtrack

(Anonymous) 2010-08-08 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
You know, I've seen people praising TWBB's soundtrack, but honestly I found it to be extremely jarring, to the point of being headache inducing.

[identity profile] ferricent.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with you about TWBB being better (like, should've-got-the-Oscar-what-are-you-doing-Tom-Hanks better), but, c'mon dude, NCFOM was good too.

I haven't seen There Will Be Blood in its entirety (because I started watching it but like 30 minutes into the movie I had to go somewhere, and it was watching it at someone else's house), but what I saw of it was really interesting ... I really liked the music and Daniel Day Lewis' awesome voice (and moustache!) But I loved No Country for Old Men a lot, even the ending, and I thought it was a great movie. I don't necessarily think either one is better than the other (even though, like I said, I haven't finished the latter yet), and it's unfortunate that they both came up for nomination in the same year. Actually, I hear more people say that they hate both movies because they're "boring" or whatever than I hear people say one is better than the other :/

(Anonymous) 2010-08-07 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I have the feeling that everyone is going to comment agreeing with you, so I'm going to be contrary and say I don't agree. :P I thought TWBB was over-long and could have benefited from a much tighter edit. NCFOM, on the other hand, was just about perfect as it was released. I don't understand how someone could find it incomprehensible. ???

On a subjective note, it also affected me much more profoundly because the scope of its philosophy was much bigger. I felt it was telling me something about the world and the inevitability/inescapability of evil and destruction. That really shook me. TWBB, while a great movie -- don't get me wrong -- didn't have that kind of far-reaching worldview so it didn't have the same impact.

Although I will admit that I've seen NCFOM three times, and I haven't seen TWBB since it was in the theaters so I could be forgetting a lot.

NCFOM was boring as hell.

[identity profile] confusedkain.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
This. Forever. TWBB changed my life where it's not even funny.. I wanna be Daniel Plainview when I grow up..

[identity profile] edgyspice.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
NCFOM is a great movie that left me cold.

(Anonymous) 2010-08-07 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Of the five movies nominated that year, I have seen two. And between those two, I think Juno was better than There Will Be Blood.

[identity profile] xshotofclarityx.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
This so hard. Daniel Day Lewis, why do you keep wasting your talent on such crappy movies!?!? Do you want to end up like Jeremy Irons?!?!

[identity profile] bamf-girl.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh? Incoherent? Really? Okay then, if you say so. I didn't have trouble understanding what was up. (I had trouble keeping interest, but that's beside the point.)

[identity profile] geekbynight.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved them both but I respectfully disagree. To me TWBB was too long to the point of being self-indulgent and I found Daniel Day-Lewis' acting a bit comically over the top at some parts.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
...Nah. I was tuning out of TWBB within the first minute. I couldn't watch it. With NCFOM, I was riveted within seconds. Funny ol' world, innit.

[identity profile] sharkshark.livejournal.com 2010-08-08 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
I disagree, but I think no one should really take the Oscars seriously. They give awards to the most bullshit movies and people and ignore a lot of good stuff and it's just a big popular Hollywood circlejerk. Fuck the Oscars and just rock on with your own taste.

[identity profile] trich-tangents.livejournal.com 2010-08-08 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
I still think "Atonement" was the best of the five nominees, and I did see all of them. But between this two, I think I like TWBB more.

[identity profile] trinity-destler.livejournal.com 2010-08-08 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen NCFOM, but TWBB is an overlong, pretentious piece of tripe that sinks under its own ponderous weight. Sound and fury signifying nothing.

And Daniel Day Lewis is more over the top and mannered and ridiculous than I conceived to be possible.

[identity profile] carnography.livejournal.com 2010-08-08 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
I agree.
ext_19953: (sayid's always got red on him)

[identity profile] mutantjules.livejournal.com 2010-08-08 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
It's not a sin, it's your opinion.

(I thought both were excellent movies with ridiculously awesome performances - and on TWBB's part omg dat soundtrack - but both could have benefited from another round of editing, to be honest.)

[identity profile] keepdreamingxx.livejournal.com 2010-08-08 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
i didn't like either of them. ):
