I think they may have meant more like how if someone posts a secret here where they admit to sexualizing child characters, if someone blasts them for it, someone else will step forward and say "Hey now, everyone has different kinks, and it's better than them lusting after a real kid." but if someone goes dropping the n-word, they'll find themselves shunned and despised faster than you can say Michael Richards.
It's a double standard, because pederasty and racism are both horrible, but in fandom someone will actually defend one of them. Which is... depressing, to say the least.
