#11, it's a pet peeve of mine too.

I know, it's dumb. Maybe they're just clip-on ears, right? But it annoys me too.

(Anonymous) 2007-05-14 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
So. Damn. Annoying.

[identity profile] hello-scorpling.livejournal.com 2007-05-14 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
7. I agree, I never liked Megatokyo. Did it even have a story? Or any coherent sequences at all?

8. Hello pet peeve. 8D

11. You're not strange, animal ears are pretty pointless, and I've always thought it's more freaky than cute.

2) You are. Don't give up~
7) Hey, I really like that comic, and I'm not a pretentious fangirl.
17) Word.

At the risk of exposing myself as a hopeless - well, I don't quite know what I would be, but I would clearly be a hopeless one: am I the only one here who actually kind of likes Megatokyo?

I'm by no means a rabid fan: I can't even adequately explain quite why I still like it, still less put up a spirited defense of it. I'm definitely not blind to its faults, and I've stopped reading once or twice for no reason other than loss of patience. Still, it's the one webcomic I keep coming back to and one of the few I check regularly. Maybe it's just a bad addiction; maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment. But for whatever reason, while it's by no means my favorite webcomic out there, nor the best one I've ever read, I happen to find it enjoyable, if only on its own level. Really, it doesn't matter if nobody else agrees with me: think what you like about it. But I find it pleasant, in a quiet kind of way, and don't quite understand why that alone should make me 'suck'.

I can see it's got problems, and I can understand why people wouldn't like it. But, speaking totally personally, I don't think it's all that bad - and, for the record, I have never aspired to be 'the shit' courtesy of my taste in webcomics. Every fandom has its share of idiots, but it's pretty idiotic to assume that makes everyone who likes that series an idiot by default.

[identity profile] levikitty.livejournal.com 2007-05-15 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
You're not the only one.

Megatokyo is the type of comic that's better read in large chunks. (As opposed to say, 8-bit Theatre) Otherwise, you lose interest easily waiting for update to update. It's a lot easier to understand what's going on when you read it sequentially.

The reason the beginning is so bad is because Fred drew the first comics to get Rodney to shut up about doing a comic. After the split, it started to take a new direction. MT is the comic that asks you to throw away rationality to enjoy it. Yes, there are Rent-a-zillas running around. Yes, there's girl who's a PS2 accessory, but that's a big part of it, the blending of fantasy and reality. They mix so much you can't tell which is which anymore, or if there was a difference in the first place.

Because, admit it, a lot of us would love to live in a world where zombies have to submit their rampages beforehand and ninjas and magical girls roam everywhere among us.

7. There is a Penny Arcade comic you'd find hilarious then. I need to find it.

12. WHICH FANDOM PLZ?! C'mon, I'm in the Winx Club fandom! It can't be so bad.

(Anonymous) 2007-05-15 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
aww, well at least winx club is an actual show, you know? see, that's how obscure mine is, haha it's not even really so much a show/movie/book as it is a set of characters!

12. pfft. Don't be ashamed of being in a small, kid show related fandom. I'm in several. And if you're having fun, that's what matters.
Also can I recommend [livejournal.com profile] heard_of_it which is for people who are in more obscure/less popular fandoms, it allows people to convert new fans, or discuss it, or share things, whatever.

I like Megatokyo... I just do. I read it and enjoy the storyline.

I really just do not understand why people hate it. I really don't. :\

2. Funny, I've never found that to be true, but I'm ridiculously picky about which RPs I join to begin with, so I just might not have run into them.

4. I know lots of pairings like that. It's like the writer got all of their "canon" from art or badfic or something. It's very annoying, especially when it becomes the dominant pairing in the fandom for NO APPARENT REASON.

7. Well, I like Megatokyo, but then again I have generally bad taste. ^^' However, I was completely unaware that there was a fandom. I mean, I supposed I did in the back of my head, but it never quite clicked as a real, published (even though it is) work. I think the art style's cute, too. Especaially the panel where Erika lets Piro borrow some boxers and you actually see that he's kind of chubby. I even thought it was kind of realistic in the emotional aspect of life (clearly not the physical aspect), but I expect most people to disagree on that despite the fact that I've seen lots of my friends act in many of the same ways. Clearly, everyone on the internet is too elite and oh-so-mature for normal displays of emotion.

18. I always wanted to get a secret outside the cut. XD It would be like a huge ego boost or something.

[identity profile] luzerna.livejournal.com 2007-05-15 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
7. Please tell me the picture in the background is fanart or something. Please tell me that's not official.

8. I agree with you on the fangirl Japanese. I don't know it, but I've picked up a sliver of the basics from grammar books and some of my friends who do speak the language, and it's enough to know that what they're saying often doesn't make sense. Also, it just sounds stupid. :| If you want to use it, learn it first. If you don't want to take the time, keep your trap shut.

But just because people watch the dubs doesn't mean they're "bandwagon anime fans". I usually prefer the dubs because subbing takes out a lot of emotion for me. I like to hear it in a language I can understand. (Also I have no money for DVDs, and no patience when it comes to seeking out anime on the internet.)

18. I got a secret above the cut once! It made me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

[identity profile] thano.livejournal.com 2007-05-15 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
3. Oh my gosh. I really admire you, I really do. ^^ Sometimes I just can't find it in myself to just keep on being immature or mean-spirited with a character, even though that attitude might be totally warranted, because people might get annoyed with him/her, and with me, as a result. Props. ^^

7. 8D Megatokyo... I dropped out when Largo started to angst. Dude. Not cool.

8. ALSKDJFAL;SJDFLASJDFLJA. STOP THAT. LEAVE THE DUB OUT OF ANY ARGUMENT YOU CAN THINK OF THEN WE'LL TALK. I was (and still am) a raving fangirl of Naruto, back when the PS3 was just a glimmer in the future, but I also have an unhealthy addiction to the DUB. Shockhorror! You know why? THEY SAY IT. RIGHT. ... Were you not even listening? Aaaall the way back in the sixth episode. "Tora, inu, uma, nee, hitsuji", remember? WORD FOR WORD, BITCH. Or even back to the second and third episodes. Taijutsu, Genjutsu, Ninjutsu? All present and accounted for, perfectly pronounced. Hell. They had Hinata say "nindou", rather than "the way of the ninja". I would've been damn happy with "way of the ninja", myself. They are trying so freaking hard to make all the fans happy, balancing translation quality with what sells on the American market, that one mistake could send them tumbling down into hordes of screaming fans. So when I see crap arguments like "The kids here watch the American Naruto" ----> "The American Naruto must be the cause of horrible pronunciations" when it's actually more like "Some kids who watch the American dub read manga and don't bother to learn proper Japanese" ----> "Most American kids are lazy idiots who speak mangled Fanbrat-anese", your point tends to go directly down my bullshit drain.

... Not that you don't have a point, in this case. 8D The next person, in fact, who I see saying "Nay-ruh-toe", gets a traditional Texan stranglin', courtesy of myself. ♥

11. ... Marluxia/Vexen. It was okay, at first. MAKE IT STOP. D= And the four-ear thing... well, in my manga project, that was the first problem I made sure to fix. >D No aural overload here, bitch.

4. Not familiar with the series, but I feel the same about a lot of pairings in the fandoms I'm currently in.

8. While, yeah, fangirl Japanese is annoying, the Naruto dub is one of the better dubs out there ATM. Being able to watch the series in Japanese doesn't make you in any way superior to someone who watches it on CN or wherever the hell it's aired in English.

12. Now I want to know the fandom.

HAY JOO. I mean, er. This? Best thing ever.
Because wouldn't you think, if ears were going to be kitty ears, that they'd be in place of human ears? Otherwise, what does the brain do?! WHERE DOES IT GO?!
Geez- people, do you even have cats? Do you scritch their ears? That whole soft fluffy area that's kind of soft? That's all part of their ears. These catpeople that have ears and stuff on top of their heads either have no brains, very tiny ones, or should have huge lumps on their heads for the parts of the ear that enable hearing in the first place.
On second thought, maybe that explains why catpeople are so dumb.

Didn't someone find out that Fred Gallagher is a pedophile, and keeps kiddie porn of his characters on his comp? o.o

If you said that about every comic that you thought was bad, then I think we'd be very short of artists that have different ideas.

I personally can deal with you having a opinion on a comic but...

1. Don't say something "is" :l To me that makes you sound like a fucking jerk who can't just state an opinion, you always have to be right and all knowing. Shut the hell up. Put "I think" or "In my opinion", you idiot.

2. Imo, That last line to me was way too harsh and made me cringe.. Rumors and their comic isn't a reason to say that. At all. To me you fail at being a human being with FEELINGSSSS. You only say that because he managed to get popular. If he did the same thing and wasn't popular you wouldn't give a shit. Sadly you think "you're" "the shit" because you dissed a rather nice comic. It's good enough to get published. Get over it.

3. It's called an apostrophe. Use it next time by spell check. "It's" not "It;s"
