I disagree that the Sookie Stackhouse novels are better written. They're both written horribly, just in different ways.

TBH, I think the Sookie Stackhouse series is just as bad as Twilight; it's the adult version. But I prefer her storyline because it features character who aren't teenagers. But it's a guilty pleasure, nonetheless.

It's been a while since I read Twilight, and I mostly remember a lot of "and then I went there, and did this, and debated making Jacob a grilled cheese sandwich, but then the phone rang, so I forgot about making the sandwich, which was a shame, since I was hungry. Edward is often hungry. For my blood.", so I think I'm more critical of it in comparison.

But yeah, the only real difference is the age bracket they involve and appeal to.

I read all (but the last) of them, and I certainly can't fault a guilty pleasure, but it is not highbrow literature here.

I would swear to G-d there is an actual passage somewhere in there about making Jacob a sandwich, only she doesn't know what kind he wants because he's doing something else/is late? So she spends like, ten minutes thinking long and hard about sandwiches, and then realizes she has to go somewhere and promptly forgets about them, which is a irritating because I CANNOT. The inside of Bella Swan's mind is a dark, twisting place.

It's entirely possible I hallucinated it, but it sums up so nicely everything that is wrong with SMeyer's writing style.

He and his dad came over to her house and I guess she was attempting to be a hostess at him? Idk, he didn't ask her to, she just got it in her head that it was sandwich-making time.

Most likely SMeyer just didn't know what to do with them, so instead of standing around pining over Edward or tapping into her bitching about the weather quota for that chapter, she gave Bella something to occupy herself.
