I fail to see how the second series destroys the first?

But I agree with desperately wanting them to meet again ;_; Those side stories where they aaaalmost meet are such a TEASE. Especially since I thought they were building up to a reunion and then... they just stopped.

... I feel the same about Shin PSOH. I admit I read only the first 2-3 volumes of the second series so maybe it's not enough to judge, but it felt like it was just a rehashed version of the original series, with no new elements. During PSOH we got to see D slowly change and become a warmer, more forgiving character thanks (mostly) to his interaction with Leon and Chris, and the individual stories started to connect into an overarching plot, straying away from the "monster of the week" format. I also feel that the ending of the first series could've lead to something new, plot-wise (D's tears seemed to testify he'd changed quite a lot, at that point). And yet Akino Matsuri decided to go back to what PSOH was at the beginning, with the monster of the week thing and with a Leon-substitute to try and spice things up a little. It almost feels like the events of the first series never happened, in a way :/

Now that's got me thinking that what if PSOH is actually secretly a prequel? I haven't read them in a long time, so I can't remember, but what if Japan came before America, and thelittle bits with Leon chasing D are just fast forwards?

Basically what yaoi_hoshi said. Count D in Shin is essentially the same character he was at the beginning of the original series. Where did all his development go?
