The fact that a book can and DID destroy so many people with character deaths and other various...things is what makes HP so awesome. It will be as sad for him as it was for us, but I don't think I'd love the series as much as I do if JKR hadn't had the guts to make her characters die and take real, not-shitting-around risks.

You know, I might have felt that way if at the time so many people in fandom hadn't been such assholes about anyone being upset about the deaths in those books. But I guess that happens in any fandom; express that an event in a canon made you feel sad or upset and you open yourself up to derision.

Exactly. And it's the same thing with the Hogwarts letters or picking (or being picked) for a house -Ravenclaw here- Everything in the Potter World seems, feels so real that a character dying means way more than people think.

I was scrolling through the secrets thinking to myself "Hmm, I expected to see a MRHP secret by now..." and then I saw this one and was like :O

But yes I feel the same way. I kind of wish people would stop with the YOU ARE NOT PREPARED because it seems patronizing at this point, but I can't deny that it's true. Especially since he feels certain parts of these books so acutely out of his projection of his childhood/young adulthood onto Harry.

It's because YOU'RE NEVER PREPARED with Harry Potter. Everything crazy? BAM! Add Umbridge. Everything going smoothly? BAM! Bye Trelawney, hello Firenze.
