I've never, ever seen a fan say that he "can't act". If anything, his fans champion him even when he's in a smaller role (he's a scene stealer :D )

And what exactly is so wrong with playing a "gay best friend on a sitcom"?? Is it damaging his career to play a homosexual character? I mean, Sasan wasn't a LEAD ROLE in a major film with big name actors and a huge budget, but it was one of his first roles. Look at all of the first roles of A-list actors, they generally did the same thing: started small on sitcoms and daytime television.

3 or 4 months ago there was an article in Salon.com that basically said out gay actors shouldn't play straight characters because the audience would be thinking about their homosexuality when they were shown in love scenes or something.* And how many gay actors are actually given roles as straight characters?

It's an unfortunate fact that out gay actors face a lot of prejudice in the roles they're given and the critical acclaim (or lack thereof) that they receive.

Why is everyone obsessing about his career, he's doing fine.

In the world we live in, a person's sexuality is important. People also like rumors and want to know who everyone's sleeping with. In ZQ's case, it's pretty much a mystery which makes it even more intriguing.

So naturally, the gay rumors are permanently stuck in people's minds and they keep bringing it up. It's exciting. They mean no harm and speak in jest. Do they sometimes cross the line? Well, yeah (although others already pointed out the same thing you did - without feeling the need to go anonymous I might add - so most of the people already know better and are more careful about what they say).

I don't think anyone is seriously doubting his abilities as an actor.

Playing straight characters is and always has been what gay actors spend most of their career doing, often off-set as well as on. The idea that they've suddenly lost the knack now it's become almost acceptable to be gay in Hollywood is absurd.

The 'lol, as if any character he plays could be believable even standing near a woman!' stuff is annoying and I share the puzzlement over why people like him if they think he's such a poor actor. But I have no interest in subscribing to the idea that we should all just pretend everyone is straight to protect their careers.

From what I've seen, coming out can sadly make or break ones career. I forgot what actor it was (I think the guy who played Gandoff) but they were afraid to cast him in anything. Didn't Rosey Odonnel lose her show because of it? Or was it Ellen?

Hollywood is homophobic. Hell, most of America is homophobic. Granted I don't think the fans opinions have anything to do with his career, unless they boycott seeing any of his work due to his sexuality. As in "Oh he's gay and playing someone straight. Not believable. Next." If you're like that, you're not really a fan in my view.
