I think it's confusing that you say she adds nothing but a love interest, because for only about 2 episodes is she ever really overstated as Jeff's love interest.

Britta was the cliche love interest from the get go, eventually they decided to give her a personality independent of that, but if you dislike characters for that reason then you should by all means dislike Britta too.

I don't interact with fandom, I just form my own opinions.

Canon shoved Britta as the love interest, but eventually they toned that down and showed Britta as a character of her own. But both canon AND fanon shoves Annie as the love interest. They haven't made her step back and show her character. I can't see her with a personality indepedent of Jeff unless it's something along the lines of "hardworking, studious girl", and even then that's very one-dimensional. Sure, she's "learning to grow up", but that's because of Jeff Jeff Jeff. I don't even like Britta that much but at least she's developing without HIS help.

And I didn't dislike her simply because they force her as the love interest (this ship is unnatural to me IMO). I also don't like her because I don't find her "funny" or "adorable" at all. The only gag she has is her "NOOOOOOO!" scream or her overdramatic gasps, which I don't find that hilarious to be rolling over the floor about. I think people only like her because they identify with her the most since the fans seem to be female teenagers/in their 20s and have the hotts for Joel McHale, so it doesn't matter whether she has a personality/humor or not.

Before fandom, I didn't have an opinion of her, but once I entered communities and saw how everyone was having an orgasm over Annie I just got annoyed by how overrated she and her ship is.

I just want to note that I ship Jeff/Annie like crazy, and it has nothing to do with wanting to kiss Joel McHale (my taste runs more towards Chevy Chase, thank you very much). My shipping has very little to do with identification with a character and everything to do with personality dynamics. Jeff and Annie are opposites who at heart are very much alike. The actors developed a very natural chemistry that appealed to me personally, and they have a lot of issues to work out before they could ever legitimately get together, which also appeals to me. And it's ridiculous to label Annie as nothing but Jeff's love interest, especially since she spent the majority of her time obsessing over Troy. Annie is not simply a plot device brought in to change Jeff. She's grown as a character through her experiences with Greendale from the very beginning, and not just with Jeff. Shirley, Britta, Troy, Abed, and Pierce were just as fundamental to her growth as Jeff was, and there are several episodes to reference for this.

You know what? I actually totally agree with this part. I dislike the idea that females always get defined by their love interests, and yet the male characters are somehow unaffected by it? Dude, Jeff is completely defined by the women he's gagga over. The first half of the season, his main motivation to do anything was to get into Britta's pants. And even after he was her BFF, there was still that UST undercurrent that drove him to do stuff. His character growth with Slater (and please, no bashing of her character to me, because I actually liked her) helped him grow, as did Annie. But do people define Jeff by his women? Oh, no, because he clearly had development that the female characters can never have! Ignore everything to the contrary.
