Fandom made me hate Annie, too. The show (and fandom too I guess) made me hate the ship.

I'm not really a fan of any ship in this show. It doesn't seem like a 'community' anymore, more like a Britta/Jeff/Annie threesome with some quirky side characters in the background. :\

THANK YOU! I watched the entire season before joining the fandom and didn't realise anyone actually shipped them :/ Re-watching, I still don't see it. If anything Annie is even more annoying this time round.

Word, except when I watch the show, I still like Annie. It's only when I come online that the fandom makes me hate her. I am trying to repress this urge, though. Because, in my opinions, both Britta and Annie rock independently of Jeff's dick, and no way will I further allow fandom's behavior to sway me away from this idea.

P.S. Britta's fans rock, though. They're not obnoxious.

I'm not a huge fan either, even though I'm a Lolita type. I was disappointed that the finale was ship-centric; one of the reasons I like the show is because it's hilarious and absurd and more focused on friendships instead of just all about romantic pairings. I hope the second season isn't just about Jeff/Britta/Annie/whatever.

I think it's confusing that you say she adds nothing but a love interest, because for only about 2 episodes is she ever really overstated as Jeff's love interest.

Britta was the cliche love interest from the get go, eventually they decided to give her a personality independent of that, but if you dislike characters for that reason then you should by all means dislike Britta too.

I don't interact with fandom, I just form my own opinions.

Okay, my problem with Jeff and Annie is that it makes this show become a drama, and it makes Annie become less cute and funny. I'm not even a Jeff and Britta fan either, but I am worried that this is going to ruin her strong comedic element.

Their fans see every Jeff and Annie scene, even if it has nothing to do with romance but something funny instead, as OMG THIS COUPLE IS THE SHOW'S OTP and it is so annoying. Community is supposed to be a comedy, not a shipfest where the shippers bicker over who is better.

It's weird watching it for me, because when Allison Brie plays Annie as the funny character she is, I see her as the young and innocent, yet loveable Annie.

HOWEVER-

When she plays Annie as Jeff's love interest, suddenly she becomes ten years older, and it's like I am watching Allison Brie interact with Jeff, instead of watching Annie interact with Jeff.

This is why I avoid Community's fandom like the plague (with the exception of britta's fandom, where i lurk, because everyone there seems pretty ~*awesome*~). I do not like the way it chooses to be.

I seriously do not get this fandom's superior attitude towards the Jeff/Annie shippers. They're just having a bit of fun, same as any other shippers for any other show. Excuse them for being the majority, jesus christ. People complained in the beginning that this show didn't have a fandom, then once it got a fandom everyone started complaining about its preferences. All love for the show is good love. The Jeff/Annie shippers are the most enthusiastic. If that bothers you, then promote what you like, because that's all that the shippers are doing.

I adore Annie, but this might be the only show I prefer without all the shippy crap. And, yes, fans have killed my love for many, many characters. I will probably stop watching the comms once the second season starts. I'm not letting Team Britta v. Team Annie destroy my love of this show.

After shipping bullshit from the fandom ruined the Office for me (a season before the Office ruined itself), I've refused to step near another TV fandom. I'm just glad I can enjoy Community still without seeing the shipping first and foremost.

I like Annie but I hate Jeff/Annie. Mainly because of the age difference, Annie seems very immature and naive while Jeff is an adult, it just seems off. I just hope they don't turn it into the Jeff/Annie vs. Jeff/Britta show.

Hmm. I kinda agree with you, and I kinda don't. I'm not sure I agree with the fact that Annie is just solely a love interest, and I also think she has hilarious moments. I think she's got potential to grow, but it needs to be more organic then her suddenly being a grown-up (i.e the s1 finale, where her character felt very different from the one we'd been seeing all season long). In any case, I prefer her in her comedic role, and I think Allison is a talented actress.

However, is her fandom especially annoying? YES. Now, just because they're the biggest portion of the fandom (or, more precisely, just the more vocal), that doesn't make them annoying. It's the behavior. I've been involved in many, many fandoms, where I've always seemed to be in the minority. But the Community fandom? The Annie/Jeff portion of the fandom has a superiority complex that is just off-putting. I'm not sure if its just filled with people that over identify with her character, a trend that even Dan Harmon noticed and remarked upon, or... what? I don't know. They do really crazy stuff like write Britta as wildly OOC in their fics, or they don't label their fics as Jeff/Annie, which is just presumptuous because non J/A fans click on it and then get brainpained into reading their fics. So, that does tend to make them seem obnoxious.

Honestly, at one point I would have been more open to Jeff/Annie - or at least tolerated it. But the fandom has been so off-putting that I dislike the idea intensely now. Hell, I'd rather both Annie and Britta ditched Jeff and hooked up themselves. ;)

Although I like Jeff/Annie, what made me love Community was the fact that they're such an adorable team TOGETHER.

It's like Leverage. Stop with the ships, I want to see ALL the characters interact with each other.

I don't understand everyone's hate for the Jeff/Annie fandom. They're just doing what shippers do -- writing fic, making picspams, doing episode commentaries with lots of over analysis of J-A moments. I've been a member of milady_milord for months and haven't seen any Brita hate at all. There seems to be this ridiculous assumption that if someone ships Jeff/Annie, they don't care about any of the other characters or relationships.

I like Annie for the most part, but I find her excruciatingly annoying and whiney half the time. From some comments around LJ that I've seen, I don't understand the Annie stans that consider her a "moral centre" and that she has been "maturing over the season". She still acts like a child in most regards.

Also, I hate the J/A ship too. Mostly because their shippers are ridiculous and treat the show like it's on the CW network.
