Lol. Lord, this kind of scene is replayed over and over again in our media. Shit, I was watching the Little Mermaid today and what are the lyric's to Kiss the Girl:

"...there is one way to ask her. It don't take a word, not a single word. Go on and kiss the girl." basically kiss her and see if she likes it.

The only reason this is being blown up to the proportion it is is because it is Aang kissing Katara. He did something dumb, he wasn't being malicious. But she had never given him a reason to think she would react that way.

And I have been raped and the recipient of unwanted advances before anyone goes jumping down my throat.

And I think you're right. If it had been Zuko instead of Aang who did the kissing, they would probably instead rip into Katara and call her some horrible names.

I didn't mean that you would, sorry. But you know some idiot will read my comment and tear me a new one for being insensitive to women...lol.

I just remember back to watching that scene with my boyfriend and him saying afterward: "she's confused? Doesn't she realize that with her constant cheek kissing, suggesting kissing, kissing back, and sexy dancing in caves, she probably confused the crap out of him too. You girls don't realize that your mixed signals can be pretty hard to navigate sometimes. And the guy just saw a scene with an actress portraying the girl he loves saying she didn't love him and she thought of him a little brother while wrapped around a sexy actor portraying a former enemy. Believe me, he wasn't being horrible. He just wanted to know she didn't really think like that. He needed a clear signal. Especially before going into that battle."

It kind of made me see how tough guys have it sometimes. I know what being raped is like, I know what it feels like to be kissed or touched when I don't want it is like too. And I am pretty aware of what is done without thought to a woman's well-being and what is done simply out of confusion and inexperience. I mean AANG I'm sure didn't even think she would react like that. She never has in the past.

I remember about 5 years ago I had a friend who we went out to dinner almost every week, he was the one I turned to when I needed someone, we held hands when we were out, kissed a few times, but hadn't talked about our relationship. Honestly I had not given much thought to it. One night we ran into some people we knew who had just decided to move in together. We were walking back to the car and talking about how happy they seemed and he said: "Well that could be us." and kissed me. I backed away because it was not wanted and because honestly being confronted that bluntly about our relationship freaked me out. Now, I didn't like him like that and I realized afterward that I probably hurt and confused him far more than that 2 second peck on the lips hurt me.

I'm not saying Aang's actions were right, but I do understand why he did what he did. And while Aang's actions weren't right, I think it's kind of wrong to make Aang a villain in this situation, especially since Katara was hurting and confusing him just as much.

There are some guys who think a girl being polite or dressing a certain way = allowed to do whatever the fuck I want. I don't think this is anywhere close to that situation. Is it comparable? Yeah, but they're not even close as far as extremities go.

Don't get me wrong, I like zuko. But the fandom thinks he craps rainbows. If he had done this to katara, no one would be saying a thing.

I agree 100%. I love Zuko, but he's not perfect at all, and I hate how the fandom paints him that way. He can be a whiny, bratty, self-centred little prick, but most of the fandom forgets that when it comes to shipping him with anyone - especially Katara.

And lol, Zuko craps rainbows. Someone needs to make that an icon.

Iroh always struck me as just a little sexist. There was that thing with June, of course, and then also... I just remember that one scene in Zuko Alone where Iroh sends Zuko a knife and Azula a doll. I've seen fans treat it as proof that Azula's a psycho even as a little girl, but come on, she's a great fighter, brilliant and talented, and he sends her a doll? I'd have burned it up, too. :/

I just figured that was Iroh's way of being a jerk to Azula. He knew the doll would piss her off. He's a bit of an eccentric, and he's done some very stupid and jerk things throughout the show.

But you may be right. Iroh put the call out to the old masters to take back Ba Sing Se. I don't remember seeing any women among them. Either there are no female masters in the Order, or Iroh didn't feel the need to invite them to the party.

I mean I think zuko should have had his ungrateful prick face shoved into a boulder for the crap he said to Aang in TSR. I think sokka should have slapped katara for the comment she made about him not loving their mother like she does solely because he doesn't want to go off on a rampage.

But no one thinks to hold those two accountable for that. But yet Aang deserves a kick in the nuts or a slap to the face for making a mistake with a friend.

Yuck. Fandom pisses me off sometimes.
