I thought the transformation music was the same in English and Japanese? Or was that only in the later seasons?

IIRC wasn't the Japanese transformation more 80s disco-ish? While the English version was more *magical fantasy-ish*

I prefer the original Japanese.

Because it didn't have lesbian "cousins".

I still love the dub. I prefer subs no mater what anime I'm watching, but if the Sailor moon dub was put back on the air I would shamelessly watch it in a heartbeat! Haters gona hate.

The dub was the only thing around when I got into Sailor Moon back in 1996-ish. I remember getting up at 5am to watch it. I thought the voices were silly, but the awesome cheesy music was just so happy-making, dammit!! I have the English-version cd/soundtrack... and I still listen to it on my ipod!! :P

Now that it's more readily available, I prefer to watch the uncut subbed version, but I get waves of nostalgia when I hear the dubbed voices or music.

I hate the Sailor Moon dub, but I still love the DIC transformation music so much.

I think music-wise the German dub is the best, though. They kept the Japanese music themes for the transformations but did an all new 90s techno opening theme. Haha, Germans love their techno! I always thought the Japanese and English openings sounded a bit to girly and slow. I like my Sailor Moon kick-ass!

I grew up with the dub, so it does hold a special place in my heart as well.

I do too. I like understanding what I watch. It's pretty bad that you need to keep this a secret though. If anyone judges you for preferring English over Japanese, they're just a bunch of losers man. They think they're critics, authors, voice actors/actresses, etc. Delusional punks who think being a pro at everything is just what they are. When, you know, they're really not. That's how I see it.

I think My Only Love is so much better than the music in the original scene that any time I watch that episode subbed I sing it in my head so the right music will be there.

I think I'd like the dub music even more if it was in something non-Sailor Moon. Don't get me wrong, I love the transformation music as well as the sad slow theme they would use, but it's no replacement for the original music.

Sure, the Japanese music is dated, but so is the anime. Let Sailor Moon be as early-90s as it wants.

I like the music in both versions, but it's the dub that usually strikes a cord with me. It might be nostalgia. To me it doesn't matter. I love it. :)

I hate the english dubs of...pretty much everything, and Sailor Moon in particular was quite terrible (ESPECIALLY "MAAAAAAAARLY" FFF JUST SHUT UP, SHUT UP...) but...you're right. The dub's transformation music was -epic-. I thought it was the same, so when I saw the original, more boring music I was all "what is this :c'

I agree that the music in the dub is so much better. Loved the placement of "Carry On" and "Power of Love" where they were used (especially because..."Moonlight Densetsu" during the Beryl battle in the sub? wut?)

And I know that there's such a thing as taking the good with the bad, but really. Really? The music was good, but but that's such a tiny part of the show, and considering how awful the dub scripts were...
