Aw. I'm not in the fandom, but that's a shame. Jal is the girl you'd want to have for your best friend IRL, y'know?

It took re-watching series one and two a few times for me to realize Jal's awesomeness, but eventually I did. She's probably the most realistic character out of the first two generations.

I loved Jal!

God I fucking LOVE Jal.

I don't get why there isn't more Gen One love, or more Jal love.

And honestly?

Chris/Jal, and all the related stuff around it, was way more interesting than almost anything else that happened in Gen One.

I laugh when I read something like "oh no, Jal was so boring", etc. Because, well, I think Emily is REALLY boring but everyone loves her. Anyway... I like Jal :) She doens't get much love because she isn't... uh... "cool"?

Maybe it's because I came in late (I didn't start until Gen 2), but... yeah, there were only about three characters in Gen 1 I liked and Jal wasn't one of them (Tony - mostly because his S2 episode was astonishing - , Sid and Cassie). I never got the Jal/Chris relationship, and outside of that I didn't think she had much going for her.

I really liked Jal, I did, but being the "normal one" in a teenage drama automatically puts you on the back burner. :/

Jal is a fucking badass. Jal/Tony is my #1 Skins ship.

Finally Jal gets some love!! I always thought she is freaking awesome and she has a strength about her that makes her a RL role model. She also had some of the best lines, I think.

Overall gen1 was much more well-crafted than gen2. Gen2 just had dumber drama and more exaggerated characters, therefore more attraction to it. And Jal was by far one of the most realistic characters over the entire series, and people probably don't appreciate that cos it's not "cool" to be a regular kid. She's not a trainwreck like everyone else and is "normal" thus she's "boring" for TV. Meanwhile, most of the people saying these things are probably just like her IRL. js.

Like Anon above, i think it's hilarious when people love Emily but not Jal. Emily's far more irritating in my opinion than Jal and less interesting/more cliched. Her character is flatter. Jal and all of gen1 for that matter felt more well-rounded to me.

Gen1 appreciation is severely lacking in fandom.

Tbqh, I have no problem with Jal, but I really can't relate to her. But I can relate to Emily, so even if they're the more ~normal characters, I connected more with Emily than Jal. But I'm not a huge Cassie or Effy fan, so. *shrugs* Like with every character, YMMV.

I didn't mind her character. I didn't dislike her. She just wasn't that interesting to me.

Jal is lovely, and generally nice - however, I didn't feel invested in her character whatsoever. One of the better characters of Gen 1 but I didn't feel like I cared much about her storyline. I can't really help that.

I can already see how Emily is being dragged into this, thing is; for whatever reason, it seems like Emily managed to make you invest in her character more, whether it's the storyline or her transition as a person etc. etc.

At the end of the day, whatever floats your boat anon. Skins has a variety of characters for a reason.

Jal is normal and darling. Her episode of S2 broke my heart.
People like Effy because she was mysterious for two seasons, then she reveled herself to be a beautiful broken bird who all (and I mean, ALL) the guys want and who wouldn't want to be her (in theory)? Emily is an annoying cunt so idek. Cassie was basically Luna Lovegood w/ a dark side; she's amusing with some depth.

Jal is, and forever will be, my favorite character from any gen on Skins <3

I'm joining the Jal lovers. She's lovely, realistic and if she was real, I'd love to have her as a friend.

Also, wtf is this that Gen 1 doesn't get enough love? :( Gen 1 rocked.

I have to admit, I didn't much care for her in the beginning. I guess because, as stated above, she was the most normal out of the bunch. She slowly grew on me though and her storyline with Chris just broke my heart. Then I watched an unseen with her and Michelle, where they hang out in a bar and play with little animal statues IIRC and weird out a couple of guys who tried to hit on them. It was pretty much the most hilarious thing in Skins history and cemented my love for both Jal and Michelle (who I also didn't care for much.)

Also she plays the clarinet, which is one of my favorite instruments.

I'm pretty sure Jal would be much more popular if there were more Jal-with-friends scenes. When Michelle and Jal's in that little bar in russia singing Kalinka is awesome.
Also, am I the only one who thinks Jal and Sid would've been marvelous friends?

I didn't really like Jal/Chris, but I love both characters. It wasn't... interesting. Maybe if they had gotten more screentime, it would work for me? Idk.

Anyways, nice secret. Glad to see someone still cares about Skins.
