I read Harrison Bergeron too, and I'm pretty sure that you're missing the point. In the story, the characters had whatever made them above average taken away. When fandom wanks about privilege it's about giving a voice to people who have been traditionally marginalized. Nobody's taking away someone's ability to concentrate on stuff or be a great intellectual/artist/athlete/whatever. It's about giving stuff to people who don't have it, not taking stuff away from people who do. :/

Plus there's the thing that it was supposed to be a satire and all...

It is, although that could just be cause I like Kurt Vonnegut's writing. His books are better, though, I think. He does this thing where he gets sidetracked from the main narrative all the time and the book becomes about a dozen different things and then they all fit together sort of at the end. It's not for everybody but I like it a lot.

Also, F!S is boring today. Where's all the "nobody knows I want to fuck this obscure actor" and "I judge you" and "I want to be the Matt to your Mello"? NEEDS MOAR MELLO IN HERE.

You never get tired of judgmental people and confessions of inconsequential lust? Also, Fandom Secrets hasn't been the host to an "I want to be the Matt to your Mello" secret in a long time.

It IS pretty funny when people make convoluted analogies that don't hold up. I actually really like the X to your Y secrets though. I'm secretly a hopeless romantic and seeing a particularly cute one makes me grin all day. Don't tell the internet though.

Also, I'm curious about Joly and Boussett now. Are they real characters from something? I'm going to be so disappoint if you just made those names up D:

They're from Les Miserables. Didn't know they had a ship fandom though! (They hang around with Enjolras and Grantaire, who are kinda sorta a legit canon gay pairing - first one I ever had back when I was a tween *sigh* )

There are quite a few stories at ff.net featuring Enjolras/Grantaire, Boussett/Joly, Enjolras/Combeferre, Enjolras/Courfeyrac, and, oh, all sorts of other things! AMarguerite writes some great ones, mostly fairly lighthearted.
