I'm so with you. It would have been one thing if they hired the best actors for the roles regardless of race, but they clearly just wanted to hire the most whitebread people they could find.

I haven't seen the film, but it's my impression that a lot of the actors themselves are not bad (ie, they have been decent in other films). The problem really does seem to have been with the direction and probably the screen play.

Yeah, kinda puts a lie to the whole, "We just got the best actors for the roles" bullshit. There are WAY better young actors than those three.

This is why I'm actually glad that the acting did suck because it means one less excuse, i.e. "they just chose the best actors!" I was bracing myself for decent acting, which would mean a lot of people willing to overlook the fail as a result.

That seems to be the general sentiment amongst most of the fandom. Most people couldn't care less about the racefail as long as they could squee about the movie. But since the movie sucked, now people admit that oh yeah, whitewashing is bad.

That's EXACTLY what I've seen. :| Though I've also seen my fair share of those who vehemently STILL defend the cast even after it was revealed how shittastic the movie was, so yeah. I worry for humanity. ~_~

You see, I didn't agree with the casting, at all, and went to see it only because my friends outvoted me when it came to movie choices that night.

That being as it may, I can't blame the actors for bad acting, because the script was so fucking bad they weren't given a chance to act. Every damn line was written so leaden and flat, James Earl Jones couldn't have breathed life into it. It was just terribly written all around. No actor could've salvaged it, regardless of race.

I agree. They could have hired the most amazing actors, dead or alive, white or otherwise, no one would have been able to save it.

I feel bad for the poor kids cast in it. And glad for whoever wasn't cast in it.
