Ah, sorry for my geography fail, then. I've only seen the film once, so I didn't know where specifically the scene took place. But my point still stands; be it west or south, Eames would still have an African accent, not British, regardless of how similar some of them can sound to the unfamiliar.

I'm sorry but I really do not think that sounded at all like a African accent. It was English RP as far as I'm concerned. But perhaps if he had been raised by English RP speaking parents in Africa, then yes.

I suppose it must be my personal bias showing. I have RP, yet Eames had a distinctly different accent to my own. It's quite likely there are variations of RP and we have different versions, so I'm probably wrong.

where are you from, anon? because yes, obviously there will be regional variations to the English RP accent but in this clip (which is short yes) it's quite clear that Eames is speaking in an Southern English RP accent:

...That doesn't sound like Southern English RP, to me. I've heard the accent all the time on British television and know people from London, Cambridge and Hertfordshire, all places with RP as the dominating accent and Eames just...doesn't sound like any of them. I am, quite obviously, not the definitive be all and end all judge of accents, so it really must be RP and just my perception being weird thinking it's not. Sorry for the trouble :(
