(I just posted right under you)

My mom has cancer and one thing we've discussed when talking to her friends who keep pushing all these miracle herbs on her is that everything in existence is made of chemicals. So, yes, even these magical plants are chemicals, and growing out of the ground doesn't mean they're better for your body than things developed in a lab. "Natural" doesn't mean "better". Arsenic, strychnine, nicotine, and poison ivy are all "natural" and will hurt or kill you -- what about them? Not to mention that a lot of lab-developed medicine have their foundations in plants or organic compounds (e.g., penicillin, aspirin, even some chemotherapy drugs believe it or not).

People are well-meaning, though, so she usually just accepts their presents of herbs with a smile and thanks them for thinking of her.

Oh, that might actually be a good argument to raise should (God forbid) that ever happen. She's pretty rabid about the stuff and mostly ignores common sense arguments about western medicine also working though (since she makes a pretty clear distinction even though logically she creates a distinction where there isn't really one), but I'll write that down! Thank you so much.

Bonus points to your Mom for both being so gracious to her friends, and for understanding that since all treatments are chemical in nature that it's not in her best interest to mix types of treatments.
