YES THIS.

Plus this guy's basically telling me I'm not gay based on the stuff I enjoy. Namely, heavy metal*. AURRGGH.

*The bands he lists as undesirable are too soft for me. I'm a Slayer fan, for starters.

Well, they did specify hair metal, which barely counts as metal anyway.

(I like metal but I would totally rather listen to Rocky Horror and Caberet over Def Leppard and Motley Crue.)

Also, this dude does not seem to realize that metal isn't as "straight" as he thinks it is. For one, the whole leather and chains look was actually taken from the gay scene back at the time. Then, there's the simple fact that hypermasculinity is not an exclusively straight thing. Also, metalheads are one of the most open and accepting subcultures, at least in my nook of the world.

Basically, he's replacing one set of uniformed stereotypes with another. And that's sad, because he's depriving himself of a lot of really amazing things.

(Also, as a European, I always laught at the idea that European films are supposed to have some kind of mystic cultural value that automatically imbues them. Um, sorry. Might be because only the good ones make it across the Atlantic, but the European film business has the same crap-to-awesome ratio as the US one has.)
