(Anonymous) 2010-09-19 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)While I really like reading it has always been very hard for me. I got distracted easily, my thoughts drifted off and - voila! - I didn't know what I'd just read and had to start again and again and again.
This happened so often (even if the book was a very good read) I knew something had to be done about it. I had my eye function checked and it revealed that one muscle in my jaw area was always tense.
I then started to do a little muscle relaxation practise before I read magazine articles or short passages in books - it worked!
The next step was to practise how to keep focus. I went into my room and asked everyone not to interrupt me for half an hour or so, I made sure everything was quiet and comfy. It worked as well! Every week I read one page more.
I basically learned to read again.
This wall of text should only illustrate that you CAN train yourself to be a "reader". Just make one step at a time. Maybe start with Neverending Story if you liked the movie (because the book is so much better and will surely manage to capture you!) :)
