I really, truly do not mean to be insulting when I ask... but have you gone to someone to see if you are perhaps either dyslexic or if you might have from a mild form of ADHD? Either one of those could be contributing to why you don't enjoy reading, since you clearly wish that you do. I only ask because this has been the case with a few people I know...

Seconding this. As someone who is naturally a reader (of fiction, anyway), but who discovered late-ish that the problems I DO have reading (e.g. having to read textbooks over and over) are due to ADHD.

I've been told all my life that I'm a "strong" reader, so I assumed it was "normal" to have to read textbook pages over 20 times to understand them even when I was trying my hardest to concentrate.

There's no telling what the OP thinks is "normal" to experience when reading which isn't if they've never talked to other people about it and compared notes.
