Come on, OP!

Girls can wear lovely skirts and shiny dresses! Have flowers and pins in their hair! Use make-up and paint their nails any color they want! Wear colorful, bright necklaces and amazing earrings!

I could go on forever...

Seriously, you should never hate your own gender and especially not for something like this. Being a man has its advantages, yeah, but so has being a woman! :)

What if you hate wearing flowers and dresses and make-up. Skirts and makeup are practically a social requirement for women and I don't find any of it fun. I'm not exactly gonna get a sex change here but my life would be a lot easier if I was a guy.

I like being a woman and have long hair and wear form-fitting shirts and jeans most of the time, but I DO NOT like skirts, dresses, makeup, flashy jewelry, etc and it's a fucking pain to be told i'm undesirable or not feminine because I don't feel the need to load up on makeup and uncomfortable, revealing outfits

I actually can't tell if this is said in sarcasm or seriously.

At some point I complained to my friend, and she suggested I start doing make up and wearing high heels. I all seriousness. Because that was her solution.

As for me, I can't stand that shit. I dont hate my own gender. I just hate being my own gender because of my tastes. And its not easy to just 'do what you like according to your tastes' because I can either not achieve the look or its not available for this gender.

This has been me forever, OP. I love male fashion so much more than female fashion. Though, I think we're hitting a point now where there are more women who rock the more masculine clothes (though, maybe not in video games) which helps. The only three coming to mind right this second are Ellen Degeneres, Kate Beckett from Castle and TSCC's Sarah Connor, but I'm sure there are more.

I mean, I don't have the body type to make those clothes look as good as they do, but I feel less self-conscious knowing that it CAN be done and that I probably can pull of similar looks if I buy clothes that actually fit my body. I think the key is focusing on an evocative style more than 1:1 mimicry.

But yeah, the bigger problem, I think, is getting the rest of the world to accept that you can wear these clothes and steadfastly avoid the stereotypical "girl" clothes and still be a woman. I think this is why I get irritated sometimes with the "I'm NEITHER gender!" people because so often it SEEMS like they're perpetuating the idea that there's only the one way to be a woman/man and if you don't fit into those boxes but you don't actually want to BE the opposite gender, then you're this 'neither' thing.

And I'm probably going to catch some hell for that because I'm sure I'm oversimplifying this thing that I just don't understand because I'm all privileged and whatnot but whatever.

stepping in to give you that "hell" you're anticipating, i guess.

identifying as androgynous isn't about escaping what the stereotypical man/woman is; it's about what you actually feel. i'm androgynous (the "neither" type), and trust me when i say that i questioned my gender literally my entire life, and tried my damnedest to convince myself to be on either side for years. i did try just dressing/etc outside my expected gender role while still trying to be comfortable with how i was born, but all it did was make me feel repressed and miserable and a liar.

i loathe the notion that there's only one way to be a man/woman and FULLY believe in doing away with gender roles/stereotypes. it's something i frequently try to fight for. however, i just am still not comfortable with identifying either way, and it has nothing to do with my clothing or whatever. it really is just me.
