I think I started wanting him about two seconds after I saw a clip from one of the Big Fat Quiz Of The Year shows.

If you like him because of the Paxman interview...

You should know that he was merely parroting David Lynch, he states himself in the interview that they've been spending time together working on a doc concering fame and society. I'm amazed Jeremy Paxman didn't pick up on that.

Everynow and then, Russell Brand says something seemingly clever and everyone is thrown. Sure, it would be nice to believe that such vapidness is all an act but it isn't (some of it is, but not all).
He really is incapable of making his own opinions, he just spouts out whatever he thinks will make him charming to whoever he's with.
He uses a survival method that involves mimicking and adapting your persona to your audience. He reinvents his identity according to each situation which is an admirable trait but makes it difficult to grasp who he really is, as his image changes with time and trends.

I think he's very damaged from his tough childhood then serious drug abuse: he can't sit still, he's desperate for attention and can't define his own identity for himself.

Britain is hardly lacking in brilliant, witty, shocking and audacious comedian men but this one is getting the spotlight and I find that sad. He's a brilliant cameleon and I think he could be a fascinating character if he wasn't so all over the place.

You know what, I am so happy to hear it. About 5 days after I discovered him (pre-Sarah Marshall days) I ordered his book and waited impatiently. Upon receiving it, I read it cover to cover. I'm amazed that he managed to pull himself together after that horrible, horrible childhood, and I'm very glad he did. What with the incident with the tutor and the babysitter, and the childhood bulimia and the bipolar disorder and the cutting...I don't think I would be able to recover from stuff like that.

It really bothers me when I hear people dissing him. They call him ugly and stupid and I hate hate hate it. When I see what he did with RE:Brand, back when he was still off his tits on drugs, I am astounded. He seriously addressed the kind of things people don't even want to talk about.

Then again, I also get annoyed when he loses his self-restraint and says something that hurts himself. He's a very unstable man sometimes...
